My Ode To Food

Because really nothing is better than good food

Mm, food... I was wondering what I should write about for this Odyssey article, and I was having some real trouble figuring out which one would be the most appropriate. Some of my ideas were, “The True And Depressing History Of Thanksgiving”, “When Is It Okay To Start Celebrating Christmas?”, “100 Reasons Why Donald Trump Is Awful”, “Barely Surviving The Semester”, and the list goes on, and on, and on…

Then it hit me! I felt hungry, and I needed food. Food not only solves my hunger, but it also is very, very satisfying. I mean, just watch "Shokugeki no Souma" and you'll understand. (Actually, don’t. You’ll probably judge me.)

If I have not already made it clear, I love food. I do not know what kind of person could hate food. If someone says they hate food, they are probably lying, and you will probably catch them sneaking around eating some delicious snack in secret, kind of like that one episode of “Spongebob Squarepants” where Squidward ate a whole vault of krabby patties until he blew up (spoiler alert!).

One thing that makes food so absolutely awesome is that there are so many varieties and flavors out there. You will always be discovering new adventures in the world of food. Unfortunately, I am not a chef or cook. I am a junior in college studying English while working two jobs, so I do not have the time or energy to research and write a deep article exploring the wonders of the culinary world. Instead, I am just going to gush and rant about food.

Food fits into so many different themes (for lack of a better word). There is food that you eat only at certain times of the year. For me, that would probably be tamales. My family always makes tamales during the holiday season for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would probably eat tamales for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if it would not make me sick because of all the masa.

There is food that you can eat almost every day of your life without getting sick of it. My brother can eat ramen every day and loves it now just as much as he did in our childhood. I think I could probably eat hamburgers every day and love them without getting tired of them. However, I think if I went to In-N-Out Burger every day and ordered double-doubles all the time, I would probably get sick or die, and that would be kind of a bad time.

Oh! There is also food that is so simple but so delicious, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a cup of milk-- or better yet, chocolate milk! You may be thinking, “Andrew, are you five years old?” and I would have to say, no. I’m not five years old, I just love really good food, and how dare you judge me... actually, I accept your judgment. I’m pretty weird. I have to admit, the only thing better than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a slice of bologna between the bread. You may judge, but it is a grand flavor journey.

Food! I can probably go on and on about all of the food that I like, but I am still a student with a lot of other things to do, so I will end with this: Take a

moment to relax. Think about that one food or meal that you are in the mood for-- that thing that you love and crave. Now, go get it and enjoy your feast or snack. Right now, the one thing I want is a cup of milk and pie... Mmm... pie... Yeah, go grab some food and enjoy your life, because life should be as good as food.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
