I hate the taste of coffee
Except when it's on your lips.
The smell reminds me of coffee dates
And simpler times.
The smell of cherries reminds me of the soap
In your parents' bathroom.
Only when it disappears is my mind
Free from memories your home brings.
The sound of chopping vegetables scream
Family dinner nights.
The smell of onions wafts through the air
Making me cry over no more family meals.
Lemons in water haunt my dreams
Just because that's your mom's favorite drink.
The smell is that of cleaning supplies and
Thoughtfulness for a fancy brand of water.
It's hard going through the grocery store
And being reminded of what used to be.
But I wouldn't want to change a thing,
Except for the fate of you and me.
Our time was cut too short,
By parents and accidents and life.
The past can't be changed,
But hopefully, I can change my future.
