There are three things the town of Fort Collins has a surplus of: beer, bikes, and bands (and construction, of course). But despite being the home for dozens of striving musicians, and some of the best concert venues -- like The Aggie and Hodi’s Half Note -- Fort Collins has yet to be recognized as having a solid music scene. To make it worse, Boulder has been ranked in the top 10 college towns with the best music scenes in the country.
Fort Collins has this potential to be a hotbed for rising musicians, but has been falling flat. Maybe in order to reach Boulder's status, the Fort Collins community and CSU students need to up their support for the different local bands in town.
The Fort Collins Music Association (FoCoMA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising national awareness of the Fort Collins music scene. In their words, their mission is to "bring together the Fort Collins music community and inspire it to create great music while bringing greater awareness to all of its musical endeavors."
For the eighth consecutive year, FoCoMA has teamed up with Odell Brewing Company to host FOCOMX. It's two days, 200+ bands, 20+ venues around Fort Collins. With the purchase of a wristband, event-goers have access to both days of concerts downtown with almost every type of music to choose from.
This is not only an exciting event, but it gives the Fort Collins community the opportunity to support the local talent.
The schedule for both days of the event can be found here.
Wristbands cost $35 for the public, However, CSU students will have the opportunity to purchase theirs for only $15 at the FOCOMX Pre-Party Event in the Ramskeller on Friday, April 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Ramskeller event will also include a free concert by the bands "Write Minded" and "Slow Caves" along with a drawing for Beats headphones.
Let's make this huge. It's time to put Fort Collins on the map as having a thriving and supportive music scene.
