Florida Georgia Line: Dig Your Roots Review

If you know anything about me, you know that I'm extremely in love with the popular country duo Florida Georgia Line. FGL is popular in the country music genre for creating the "bro-country" movement. With two very successful albums under their belt, it's about time that they release some new music! I'm going through each song and giving them my personal review. WARNING: This may be biased, considering I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Florida Georgia Line and I absolutely love this new album.

The album is currently sitting at #2 on the iTunes album charts, and considering it was only released on August 26.. that's pretty damn good! Part of iTunes' review includes: The good-time boys dig deeper and add some reflection to the party-starters. After two incredibly popular (and raucous) albums that set the fuse on the "bro-country" movement, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley dig deeper on their third album.

First of all, how can you NOT love the album cover?

The album cover shows old photos of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley (a.k.a the boys of FGL) as little kiddos. Don't you just want to squeeze those cheeks?!

1. "Smooth"

This song is incredibly catchy, you can't help but not want to sway around and mess up the words!

"Good lord almighty! Girl, you go down good. You ain't even tryin' cuz you wrote the book. There ain't nobody, that do me like you. The way you move that body, girl, you so smooooooooth."

2. "Dig Your Roots"

If you're into hometown pride, then this is your song. There is nothing better than jamming out to a song that reminds you of where you come from. For me, it reminds me of small town Nebraska: home.

"I'm so proud of where I came from, this town is who I am. And the way that I was raised up, made me a better man."

3. "Life is a Honeymoon" (feat. Ziggy Marley)

This song reminds me of some good Jamaican music, especially with Ziggy Marley! If you're unaware of who Ziggy Marley is, look at the last name! That would be the legendary Bob Marley's son.

This song is an all-around feel-good song. It puts me somewhere on a beach with a cold drink in my hand, soaking up the sun. Cuz life is a honeymoon, and we're gonna live it.

"The queen of my desire, you're the music from my song. The wood in on my fire, you're the fire that's never gone."

4. "H.O.L.Y."

H.O.L.Y. was the first released single off of FGL's new album, a rare love song from the duo. Tyler and Brian don't normally sing love songs over the typical party, easy-going hits that they've recorded in the past. But this song absolutely stole my heart, I could sing it all day long. If you are confused by the song title with all the periods, H.O.L.Y. stands for "High on loving you" which is made apparent in the song itself.

"I don't need these stars, cause you shine for me. Like fire in my veins, you're my ecstasy."

5. "Island"

We normally don't hear Brian Kelley take over the vocals, but this entire song consists of his angelic voice. I was surprised to find out that his voice is not only as good as Tyler Hubbard's, but it is absolutely mesmerizing. This song is about him and a woman, being lost in a crowd, but they might as well be on an island. All they can think about and focus on is each other. The sexual tension in this song is SO obvious.. and SO hot.

How handsome is he?! *swoon*

"We might as well be on an island, might as well be on the moon. The way you're looking at me baby, can't take my eyes off you."

6. "May We All" (feat. Tim McGraw)

Okay, let's be real. ANY song that has Tim McGraw in it is a hit. This song was just released as the second single off of this album, where FGL created a music video with the one and only Tim McGraw. This song is all about the trials and tribulations that we all deal with throughout our lives. I can never get it out of my head and will constantly have it on repeat!

Helloooooooo handsome!

"May we all do a little bit better than the first time, learn a little something from the worst times, get a little stronger from the hurt times. May we all get the chance to ride the fast one, walk away wiser when we crashed one, keep hoping that the best one is the last one. Yeah you learn to fly, and if you can't, then you just free fall. May we all."

7. "Summerland"

This is the perfect summer love song (hence the title) that will get you in the mood with your significant other during any season.

"Lay it on back, back to the back of that ragtop Jeep. Blame it on the waves, we ain't gettin' no sleep. Fireside crackle kiss, plant it on my cheek."

8. "Lifer"

Another song with the vocals of Brian Kelley! He seems to be singing the majority of the love songs on this album, and with that, I have no problem. This is a love song about being a "lifer" no matter what happens in the relationship, he knew from the beginning he was going to wife her! This will tug at your heartstrings, no doubt.

" God knows that I'm a product of George Strait, and dammit all I'm sayin' to you, I done check yes and gave my mama's ring to you."

9. "Good Girl, Bad Boy"

This is the ultimate song about forbidden love, the title says it all. You can't help but want this relationship to work out after listening to this song.

"And every time she's with him, all she wants to do is kiss him. Starts thinking maybe she can fix him, he's thinking he'd love to let her try."

10. "Wish You Were On It"

At first, I didn't care for this song. But like any other song, you keep listening and then you get hooked. This song is all about a broken relationship and how he's wishing she was on the road to his house, on the phone trying to get him back. It makes my heart hurt!

"I could use a little you right now, rushin' over, runnin' into my house. With 'want you back' tears rolling down your face. Drop your keys on my hardwood floor, kiss me like you've never kissed me before. And girl, I swear, that's all that it would take. And you know the way, I wish you were on it."

11. "God, Your Mama, And Me" (feat. The Backstreet Boys)

I love how many collaborations Florida Georgia Line has done throughout this album, not to mention THE BACKSTREET BOYS! Who doesn't love listening to them?! It's hard not to love this song. I have never heard a love song like this, and it's one of my favorites.

"Never gonna run dry, never gonna come up empty. Now until the day I die, unconditionally. You know I'm always gonna be here for ya, and no one's ever gonna love you more than God, your mama, and me."

12. "Music Is Healing"

This song really makes you stop and think about all of the terrible things that are going on in the world today. I was surprised to see that Florida Georgia Line recorded a song like this, because they are notorious for their upbeat party songs. It really gets down to the nitty gritty when it asks if singing the perfect words will unhurt the hurt. It brought tears to my eyes when I first listened to it. Love really is the answer, and music really is healing.

"If I could write the perfect song, we could let it right out all the wrongs. Would you close your eyes? Would you let it in? Would you light your candle, against the wind? If I could sing the perfect words and mend the world, unhurt the hurt that we're all feeling. Stop the bleeding, get back to believing. Love is the answer, and music is healing."

13. "While He's Still Around"

"While He's Still Around" is the perfect tribute to the father or grandfather figure in your life. It talks about all the things that you should do while he's still around, before you lose him. It's very hard for me to listen to on a daily basis, because of how emotional it makes me. This is another song that is primarily the vocals of Brian Kelley, and it really makes me want to go hug my dad and grandpa.

"While he's still around, I want to meet the one. Watch him try and hold them tears back, when I see him holdin' my son."

14. "Grow Old"

This is my absolute favorite song off of the entire album. It's a slow song, dedicated to growing old with their significant other. I'm a sucker for love songs, if you couldn't tell already. Like I've said before, you would hardly expect Florida Georgia Line to produce multiple love songs on one album. This track not only tugs at your heartstrings, it makes you fall in love with FGL all over again. This will be my first dance song at my wedding!

"We're gonna see the good times and love each other through the bad, it's gonna hurt like hell when we lose our moms and dads. So let me shoulder hold your tears, walk beside me through the years. Baby let's see, where this life can lead."

15. "Heatwave"

Another track by Brian Kelley, I'm starting to see a trend. He's mostly singing the love songs and the more sexual songs, and this is definitely one of them!

"Watch your body move to the beat babe, feels like we're having us a beach day. Lightin' it up while your feet sway, I'm caught up in your heatwave."

All in all, I am thoroughly impressed with this new album. I am surprised by the multiple tracks with collaborations: Ziggy Marley, Tim McGraw and The Backstreet Boys. Not to mention the variety of music: love songs, party songs, songs about family, etc. This has to be my favorite album by Florida Georgia Line by far. I loved that they mixed it up and created new sound as well as showed their emotional side. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
