And actually, according to flag code, the flag shall be lowered to half-mast for one calendar month following the death of a current President, ten days following the death of the Vice President, for two days following the death of a member of Congress, a party leader, Supreme Court justice, Supreme Court Associate justice, and appointed cabinet members.
The nation lost an absolutely wonderful man with the passing of Senator John McCain. He will be dearly missed, and the next senator to take his shoes has a very large role to fill. Thank you for your life, Senator McCain.
