With school right around the corner and the summer slowly coming to the end, out sleep schedule is probably messed up. We've been sleeping until way past the afternoon and going to sleep way past any normal time. If you're like me, you might be freaking out a little bit because you are going to have a tough first month at school, but I am here to assure you that there are ways to fix your sleep and fall asleep.
1. Do something for 10 minutes
Whether that be fixing your room, cleaning, or coloring, it should be something that will get your mind from thinking about sleep directly. It will cause your mind to be distracted from the original issue of sleep. It will also help get your body moving and some blood flowing that will also help get you tired.
2. Do a quick, mini workout
Don't you usually feel tired after a workout and just want to go to sleep? Working out will get your blood flowing and your body tired that will cause you to be sleepy. You will probably be able to relax faster as your body will slowly be shutting down and regrouping.
3. Take a warm shower
Warming your body with a shower and going into another cool room will cause your body to drop. Rapid temperature decreasing will cause your metabolism to slow down which in turn helps you fall asleep. It also helps relax you and cause you to fall asleep with ease.
4. Listen to music
Whether it be a comedy special or soothing piano music, you can listen to something that will cause you to be sleepy and relax yourself. Most people listen to classic music or white noise to drown out everything around them, it helps your mind chill out and be within yourself. You will be focused on just the music and fall asleep faster.
5. Lower your room temperature
Feeling warm under all your blankets and cool on the outside temperature is so comfortable. The mix of both cold and warm will cause your body to relax into a state that will help you fall sleep and dream beautiful dreams.
6. Do some yoga
This can also go along with working out. Yoga also will help you relax and can cause your heartbeat to to slow down. Yoga helps you with your breathing and cause your body to be in a relaxed state that will help you cause to fall asleep.
7. Avoid naps during the day
I know taking naps is such an amazing thing and not taking a nap sounds like a crazy idea. Still, sleeping throughout the day will cause you to have energy throughout the rest of the day and cause you to fall asleep later than intended. So not taking naps will cause you to fall asleep at a normal time and get that full eight hours of sleep.
Hopefully, these can help you get your sleep schedule back on track! If not, then it's also ok to be a night owl! School is upon us and we desperately need the sleep to be able to make it through our class, study groups, and events. So here is to the next semester and fulling preparing ourselves for what is to come.
