Attending a Christian university has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I'm very grateful to attend such a great university, and quite honestly, I never want it to end. But just as any other school out there, my school has its own little quirks. One that stands out to me in particular is the all too common vocabulary heard around campus.
1. Pursue. Everybody is pursuing something. Pursuing a career, pursuing a girl, pursuing a relationship, pursuing the Lord. Just assume that when you visit a Christian college, everyone is pursuing something and would love to tell you all about it. Have a seat cause it's going to be awhile.
2. Season. "I'm just not in that season of life right now." Most conversations on campus sound like a recitation of Ecclesiastes 3. Nothing against Ecclesiastes 3, but it seems like many students switch seasons on a daily basis. You never know which season someone is in, so it is best not to assume that the person is in the same season as yesterday or last week.
3. Community. Come for a tour of our school, and I guarantee you that you will hear this word at least ten times.
4. Intentional. You can never hope for a greater compliment than someone describing you as intentional. You might even get teary-eyed as someone hits your "Words of Affirmation" love language deep in the core by using this word to define you. (Special thanks to MaKenzie Holtcamp for this suggestion.)
5. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Words I will never get tried of hearing around campus, because quite frankly, this world needs a bit more Jesus.
So if you are thinking about attending a Christian university, make it a priority to expand your vocabulary to fit these words into your daily conversations. And better yet, include these in your college essays. They just have to accept you then.
