Top Five Ways to Take A Break From Finals

It may be time for finals, but that doesn't mean you can't de-stress.

Top Five Ways to Take A Break From Finals

Well, finals week is finally upon us. This semester seemed to fly by, and it seems to be the time of year when everyone begins to freak out as essays, exams, and assignments crash together and make the perfect stress storm. Here are some of my favorite ways to cool down after working hard during most of the week.

1. Head to the Lake

Sometimes, all it takes is a little sunshine and a body of water to calm me down. Head out to Lake Hartwell (or any lake near you) to take a few minutes and work on your tan.

2. Watch a Movie

What I like to do whenever my mind is clouded with info. from studying is turn off my brain and turn on the TV. A good comedy, an action flick, a drama, or even a good scare can help to relieve that working mindset that troubles some people before they try to go to bed.

3. Work Out

One of the worst things that I find about studying is how hard it is to get my mind out of the studying groove. A hard workout can help to cool the mind down and get some of that excess energy going to the muscles. It'll also help get you to sleep when you get home; nothing helps sleep like actually being tired.

4. Eat Your Favorite Foods

One of the strongest morale boosters is food. Not just any food though, your favorite pizza, candy, or dessert make or break your studying session. Coffee also helps too, but don't get too much. You won't be able to stop working, which could be a blessing and a curse.

5. Play a Game

Whether it's a board game or video game, it's always good to help get your mind off of things by stepping into a different scenario. A good video game campaign can take you away for just the right amount of time to help you get your work done whenever you're ready to step back into it.

While these are just suggestions, they always seem to help me get my work done. In between finishing a ten-page essay and writing this article, I took an XBOX break. Had I not, I probably wouldn't have been able to get this article finished. Give these methods a whirl; I hope they work for you as well as they work for me.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.
