Netflix: It is a godsend for college students across the U.S. It offers popular TV shows, a wide array of genre films and just about everything in between. While not all of these films are from Netflix, they are underrated movies genuinely worth watching.
1. "Tiger Eyes"
This movie is based on a novel by Judy Blume and while a little sad, it is also uplifting. Davey, her little brother and her mom move in with Davey's aunt in New Mexico after her dad is murdered at his sandwich shop. Her mother is absent, lost in her depression over the loss of her husband, so Davey feels out of place and alone. However, eventually, Davey makes a few friends who help her move on and cope. (Netflix)
2. "Monk with a Camera"
This one's for you lovers of culture and documentaries. Nicky Vreeland, son of Diana Vreeland (past editor for Vogue), and a bit of a playboy and photographer, decides to turn away from the materialistic western world. He decides to work on becoming a Tibetan monk, and later decides to take photos of life at the temple to bring in money to expand it. (Netflix)
3. "Now Is Good"
This movie is probably my favorite of the list, and is also sadly no longer on Netflix. Tessa is a teenage girl with terminal lymphoblastic leukemia. Her father is cancer obsessive and her mother can't deal with the cancer at all. She decides to make a list of things she wants to do before she dies -- mostly illegal -- and does some of them with her friends. Along the way, she becomes friends with her neighbor Adam and eventually realizes that there are things more important than a list before death.
4. "The Road Within"
Vincent is a young man suffering from Tourette's syndrome who checks into an inpatient therapy center after the death of his mom. He gets assigned to a room with a roommate who suffers from severe OCD and makes friends with a young anorexic woman. Together, they go on an interesting road trip to bring Vincent's mother's ashes to the ocean. Now, while this movie sounds sad, it is quite vulgar and it will probably (definitely) have you laughing for the entire film. (Netflix)
5. "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"
Four girls, who have been friends practically since birth, are all going on separate adventures for the summer. While shopping together they discover a pair of pants that somehow fits all four of them and decide to make a pact before they leave. They decide that the pants will be mailed to each one of them during the summer, along with a letter from the girl sending the pants, and make rules for them. Each of the girls experience both good and bad during the summer but the pants keep their friendship in tact. This movie is the most well known on the list but is still a bit underrated, and come on, Blake Lively is in it and who doesn't love her? (Netflix)
