Life is hard. There are so many problems and failures that we face everyday. Some days, it feels like life is caving in and you’re standing right in the middle. When that is happening it seems like there is no way out, like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. But I can promise you things will get better. Things will look up eventually--even if it feels like things aren't changing, they are. Here are five life tips to make your day just a little better.

1. Always listen to happy music.

I know it’s easy to scroll through your playlist and find the saddest and most unhappy music when you’re down, but you shouldn’t. Instead, listen to things that will make you feel better. Listen to motivational music that will pump you up for whatever you are facing. I can promise you that listening to happy music has gotten a lot of people through hard times, me included. It doesn’t matter what genre this music comes from, just make sure it is happy music.

2. Pet some puppies.

Whenever something is bothering you or the world is collapsing around you, go out and pet some puppies. It’s been proven that puppies add enjoyment into life. They can make you smile, giggle, and even dance with joy. A puppy always seems to have a dog-like smile on their face and if that doesn’t fill you with even a little bit of joy, then nothing will.

3. Talk to a friend.

If you are going through a rough patch, then odds are your friends have gone through something like that as well. Find your friends that are like a support group, but also are fun to be around. They should be there to lift you up when you are down and you should be there to do the same. Your friends can be life savers in any situation. I can promise you a good set of friends will always be there for you when you need them.

4. Watch a movie.

Movies are great. They are like separate universes within our own universe. Whenever you are feeling down the best mode of action is to put in one of your favorite movies and just sit back and relax. A movie can add excitement to an awful day and even change your mood entirely. To even add more enjoyment try to watch a movie with someone else, this will not only make your viewing experience better but also gives you someone to talk to afterwards.

5. Just smile.

It may be hard to smile on some of your worst days, but even just trying can make your day better. There has been plenty of research on how smiling can change your entire mood. I know from experience that it’s hard to smile on rough days, but if you do I can promise your day feels just a little better.

So, the next time you have a rough day try one of these tips and just maybe it will get better.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
