1. You will be homesick. But that is totally ok.
Before college, I thought homesickness was something only kids had. But as I settled into college, I began to miss my parents, siblings, and my dogs much more than I expected. It is totally ok for you to feel homesick from time to time- most freshman feel the same way.
2. You will not meet your best friends instantly. It takes time.
I came into college expecting to meet my forever friends just like that. However, that is not the case. While I have made some close friends on my floor and in my classes, I have realized that making friends takes time and that I still have three more years to find my best friends.
3. Exercise and eating healthy is a must.
I was warned about the freshman 15 plenty of times before I moved in. At first, I thought it was a myth but sadly, it is true. I have taken it into my own hands to work out and eat healthy so that I avoid the inevitable freshman 15.
4. Parties are boring and not all that.
Going out every once and awhile is fun, but not as much fun as some think. There are a variety of different options around campus and around town to do besides getting drunk and potentially doing something you will regret the next day. And besides, most colleges have a zero tolerance policy which basically means that if you're busted at a party, you could be facing serious trouble.
5. It isn't as scary as it seems.
Honestly, I was petrified of college. I feared that the classes would be too difficult for me, that my professors would be scary, and that I would struggle to keep up. But that isn't the case. With the right organization techniques and study skills, you will be FINE. The professors are not as scary as they are made out to be. They all want you to succeed both in their class and in school.
