Five Things To Do In The Morning That Guarantee You A Good Day
Jacqueline Madrid

With so much going on in the world it’s hard to start off your day on a good note. However, although those insane current events --historical occurrences, advances of every aspect as a country, in science, and so much more-- definitely deserve our focus. Please, do not ever feel bad for shifting the focus on you for those few hours in the morning as you get ready for your day. After all, you want to present the best version of yourself to the world, correct? Not just because that’s all that matters. It’s good to feel positivity flowing greatly through you so that you not only will that pour into your day and directly radiate that excellence thereafter, but it is also possible to spread it in a domino-like manner. Don’t you agree that the world needs that?

Here is a list of 5 things that could guarantee you a good day if done in that spare time in the morning.

  1. Get up early - I know this might sound crazy but, you get up at 5 AM? Get up at 4:30. Lay in bed for 5-10 minutes. Prepare yourself for the day. Get a good stretch out. Leave your phone alone. Don’t you let that be the first thing you touch in the morning. Lay there. Give yourself a pep talk for the day. Give yourself a rundown of what things you need to get done at work or as errands on your day off.
  2. Wash your face! - Besides the fact that there is crazy amount of bacteria transferred from your pillow to your face, (there is enough need there!) this can also serve you as a great source of waking up your face, being able to open your eyes a little more, and feeling a little more energized.
  3. Make your bed - I made it a bad habit to visit the kitchen after my morning wash up routine. Don’t do that. Go back to your room and fix your bed! It takes a good 3-8 minutes and sets you up with a good blood pumping task. Not only that, there is great research behind the fact that doing this actually has great significance behind it and can improve different aspects of your day. Don’t leave that house of yours with an unmade bed!
  4. Read a book or pick up a newspaper - Let go of those blue light LED infested devices that cause a great deal of harm to you. No technology. Give your eyes and brain a good chance to prepare themselves for the day by reading non-technology run objects. Grab a book or read the newspaper. Actually read it. I’m not saying go for a whole chapter or get stuck on the comics page so long that you end up being late. No, all of this is just for a good peaceful start to your day. Be aware of time. Read a section of either.
  5. Write your thoughts down - Whether it's a list of things you need to remember, what you dreamed about last night, or what you want to make for dinner later that evening. WRITE. There are so many benefits from getting your thoughts out on paper that you have no idea are so relieving once out of there. Be good to yourself and don’t trap your thoughts and don’t keep yourself bottled up. Mental health is everything. This will definitely help you start your day off right. Keep a journal specifically for this beside your bed easy access.

This is to wishing you do one, or two, of these if not all. That you may start to shift a bit focus on yourself. To shine some positivity to you. To allow yourself those extra 30 minutes in the morning and not feel rushed. For that peaceful time in the morning to actually get to enjoy it without running around in the house. If you have kids, do it with them! Don’t allow this to only sound good and not do it. Go do it! Have a wonderful day!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
