Some may feel isolated in the five-mile radius of the town of Cheney, Washington. This is the home of Eastern Washington University, so the student population is fairly high.
Spokane houses numerous unique bars, restaurants, and hangouts that Cheney can’t compete with. That is, unless the residents don't want to make the drive. Why not take a look at some of the hidden gems Cheney has to offer?
1. The Mason Jar
The Mason Jar is a coffee and bistro shop that offers a selection of wines and beers. The products and food are all local. The owner even owns his own farm, which supplies the business.
This isn’t just a place to sit down and socialize, it's also a place to enjoy the live events and music that they have going on almost every week. The Mason Jar just expanded, so now there's also more room.
2. Monterey’s Bar and Grill
Instead of driving over 10 miles to go to Spokane for a happy hour, stop into Monterey’s. They have deals going on every day and they don't just involve alcohol. Monterey’s has a full menu of nachos, specialty pizzas, and popular appetizers.
If there are any broke college kids looking for a budget saver, this is the place.
3. The Paved Recreational Trail
If you enjoy jogging, bicycling, rollerblading, or simply just going for a walk, Cheney has a comfortable path to do so. This path is paved, so it is easy to do any of those recreational activities that residents may enjoy in a comfortable manner.
4. Eastern Washington University’s Theaters
EWU has two theaters that are holding plays and shows every month. This is a place for students or Cheney residents who enjoy theater to come and watch the specular productions made by students and faculty.
They also beat the price of most of the shows that customers can find in Spokane.
5. Eastern Washington Art Gallery
EWU has an art gallery on campus that anybody can come and enjoy. If there are any art gurus who do not feel like commuting to Spokane to enjoy an art-filled night, take a look at some of the art pieces created by EWU students.
Cheney is often under-appreciated by students and residents. Take a minute and take advantage of all that this little piece of Washington has to offer its population. It could save money and a commute.
