4 Things To Do If You Get Bored This Summer

Make this a summer to remember.

Summer has begun, and that means free time and relaxation! The feeling of being in school for the last 9 months straight, (except for Christmas break), and then finally being able to have a few months off is amazing. No more setting alarm clocks, no more sitting in a class room for three hours straight, and no more pulling all-nighters for that text you didn't study for until the night before. It's amazing what some extra rest can do for the body, and it feels nice to be able to see your friends without a time crunch in between classes, or only on the weekends. Although the initial first couple weeks of summer can be relaxing and have its perks, it's only a matter of time before sleeping in until 11 AM and watching Netflix all day gets boring. So here are some fun things to do this summer to cure your boredom when it hits.

1. Go On A Hike

Seriously, enjoy the nature around you! I live in Colorado and there's an abundance of hikes and trails that are definitely on my summer bucket list. This is the time to do it because the weather is amazing, so why not enjoy the beautiful outdoors and breathe in the fresh air.

2. Read A Book

It's easy to get comfortable on your couch while watching Netflix, but I encourage you to pick up one of those dusty books off your shelf - or better yet, go to the library (Gasp - during summer?) and pick up a book that catches your attention! Trust me, reading, when it's a book that you pick out and not a book from the 1940's that your teacher picks out is much more fun to read.

3. Take A Mini Vacation

Summer vacation doesn't always mean you have to have a big expensive trip planned. I know it's the trendy thing to do to take a trip to Mexico or go on a cruise, but try to find local places you can take a mini vacation to! I'm sure there are plenty of cool places in your state or the state next to you that has cool sights, or fun things to do, and it will save you so much money too!

4. Find A Hobby

Finding a summer hobby is a great idea. Last summer I took on painting and I loved it! I'm doing it again this summer. Its such a fun way to relax and I can do it while watching TV or putting on movie. It's a great way to get all the creativity I have out! Your hobby doesn't have to be painting though, it can be anything from having a cool collection- to stargazing at night time!

I hope some of these things come in handy when its mid-June and you've already binge-watched all 12 seasons of Grey's Anatomy. Make this summer a relaxing, yet enjoyable one!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
