Let's be honest, we've all been through it. The unmistakable, impenetrable wall of no new ideas or motivation. It can be scary when you reach it, but luckily for you I have compiled some of the best ways to get over it.

Here are five things that are proven to kill writers block.

1. Start writing a different scene.

One of the biggest things that leads to writer block is that you are unable to figure out how to write a scene. If you're stuck at the beginning, try writing the ending or climax. This will help to get your creative mind flowing and will motivate you to reach that scene.

2. Create a back story for a minor character.

By figuring out the life story for a minor character, you will be putting yourself back in the world you created. This will help you bring fresh ideas to the table, and will help your writing get back on track .

3. Write somewhere new

Many sources claim the key to destroying writers block is to switch writing locations. Writing in the same place everyday will tend to null your creativity, leading to the eventual frustration of writer's block. To prevent this dreaded situation, try instead moving locations; a new change of pace will definitely help get your story moving.

4. Start on a completely new story.

When you feel like you're at your wit's end with a certain story, try putting it aside for a second and start on a new one. It doesn't have to be crazy or detailed, but this will help motivate you to write again and give you a fresh perspective. Who knows? You might even end up using some of it in your main story.

5. Take a break.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is step back and take a breather. If your writing is undeniably at a stand-still, no amount of forcing it will make it happen. Taking a break will allow you to get your mind off of it for a while, usually allowing you to come back even stronger.

While not all of the reasons are 100 percent fool proof, they are helpful in taking down writer's block most of the time. I hope you find these ideas useful, happy writing!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
