Dear Momma,

You have always taught me life isn't easy nor fair. However, there are people in our life who make life easier. Mom you're one of them. When a boy broke my heart you were there to pick up the pieces. When I first got struck in the gut by life you held my hand. Mom I could not live this life with out you. So for the wonderful women you are, you deserve a thank you.

1. Thank you for making me the women I am today

From the way I tackle life to the way I handle stress you have gracefully shaped me. You displayed to me what it means to be a strong women or a women who isn't afraid of hard work. As I grow up I find myself taking on everyday with a strong mind. Although you taught me to be tough you have displayed a heart for others and unconditional love. You have shown me the true meaning of loving someone unconditionally despite their flaws. When it would be easier to tell a little white lie, you instilled in me the importance of honesty and loyalty. You have also saved me from many broken hearts. You have taught me to lock my heart and guard it until you find that someone who is worthy to be let in.

2. Thank you for being my number one fan

Whether it was driving me to dance or pushing my behind on the softball field when I was six, you are my number one fan. After a tough cross country race when I was in tears you cheered me up....but just enough that you could push my butt back to practice. You weren't always cradling me though, sometimes I'd want to give up and you push me. Yes I would get mad but truthfully whose always right...mom. Thank you for being the first person I hug at the finish line when I got a shiny new PR. Thank you for sitting through dance recitals and competitions. Thank you for being my number one cheerleader.

3. Thank you for being overprotective

Thank you for checking in on me with simple text at dances or parties. Sometimes I get annoyed but when I step back and think about it I'm truly blessed. Thank you for staying up till 12 to wait till I get home, even though I tell you to go to bed, I come home to find you half awake waiting. Not every kid can say their mom truly cares like you do.

4. Thank you for being the families rock

It's more then just doing my laundry it is packing my lunch with a sweet note, you've been doing this since kindergarten. When anyone in the family is stressed you are the glue that holds us together. The house could not function without you.

5. Thank you for preparing us for life

Thank you for teaching me the unconditional love of a mother. Thank you for having those talks about saving up money for our dreams. Thank you for making us work for things.

As I wrote this I realized it is not long. However, I truly can not put into words how much you mean to me. Mom, I love you more then this letter could say and more then I may ever be able to say. Mom when it's all said and done you're the one who did it all. Some days I forget to kiss you goodbye or give you updates on my day but doesn't mean you're not on my mind. You deserve more than this letter could say but I figured I'd take a crack at a big list of thanks to you.

Love, your baby girl

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
