5 Things To Miss About Wake Over The Summer

Sure, the stress of finals has everyone craving the long, free days of summer vacation, but there is so much to miss about school over break. It's all too easy to take certain things for granted in the midst of the stressful end-of-semester weeks, but here are five things to miss about Wake Forest over the summer:

1. Pit Weekend Breakfast

There aren't many things the Pit can do right, but it sure knows how to soothe the college-kid's soul on the weekend. Oh, Pit french toast, I think I will miss you most of all.

2. The Views

Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm on a college campus or at a country club. The landscaping and fields of Wake's campus are beautiful...and we have to leave just as it's all coming into bloom.

3. Winston-Salem's Eateries

For such a small city, Winston-Salem really has an excellent array of restaurants and cafes. From a quick bite at Zoe's to the delicacies of the 4th Street Filling Station, the only thing that will not be missed is the long wait to be seated at the Village Tavern.

4. The Hustle and Bustle of Campus

Sometimes home is too quiet. This campus always has something to do or places to go. There is never a quiet moment on campus and though sometimes it can be overwhelming, it's all too easy to miss it when it's gone.

5. Your Wake Family

You all started out as strangers, but somehow you came together to make a home away from home. Sure, you'll text and Facetime over break, but it's never the same as waking up in the same room as your best friends.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
