1. I was born in December.

People always ask me what it’s like to be born in December. Well, being born in December is quite interesting, that’s for sure! I was born on December 11th, 1996, and my birthday isn’t during the Winter since the first day of Winter isn’t until December 21st.

However, I came up with a term known as “finter.” Finter is people who have birthdays through December 1st and December 20th. Although it is still Fall and not technically Winter, but their birthdays are close to Winter that makes these people finter children.

Finter may sound like a silly term, but other people who are born in December have admired this term that I created and they can relate to me in a lot of ways.

One more thing about being born in December is that sometimes people will ask me what I want for Christmas before they ask me what I want for my birthday. It happens to me once or twice every year and yes, some of my family members do it, too. But I love them anyways!

However, I always have to tease them by saying, “All I want for Christmas is for someone to remember my December birthday!”

Everyone else that has a birthday in December would probably tell you that’s the same issue they have every year. I know a few of my friends do!

2. Classical Christmas movies.

I love Christmas in general, but I love the classical Christmas movies even more! Frosty and Rudolph are some of the best because it’s always been a tradition to watch them every year during December. Even A Christmas Story was another tradition that I felt like my old high school science teacher had gotten my friends and I hooked on it!

I could go on forever about all my favorite Christmas movies! I have no idea where else to begin! One of the things that I really admired about the classical movies is that they center a lot of things around hope and having faith when it comes to Christmas because it’s not just about the presents, but the love that is being shared between everyone that is around you.

3. Snow.

It’s not December unless there is a little bit of snow! I love snow! I always have! I love to make snowmen, go sledding, and make snow angels. I love how the surface of the snow sparkles whether it’s during the day or night. I love how the snow brings out the best appearance for, December.

4. Hot chocolate.

It’s the best time of the year to have hot chocolate, especially if I’m coming in from being out in the snow! It’s good to have a warm beverage to drink while I watch classic Christmas movies and snuggle under a comfortable blanket.

5. Christmas lights.

I shop for the ones I love, then wrap up their gifts before I go see the beautiful Christmas lights! Christmas lights are really amazing and I love them just as much as I love all of these other things about December.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
