My first semester went quick and was a whirlwind of new people, ideas, habits and experiences. I learned a lot about myself and those around me but I have summed it up in Five *DJ Khaled Voice* Major Keys to Success..
1. The best and worst thing about college is that you don't have to go to class.
Please. Go. To Class. It will do nothing but benefit you. Chinese food lasts a day; a bad grade will last forever. Learning goes zero to a hundred real quick.
2. Friends change with the seasons.
The people you are close with at the beginning of the semester will not always be the ones that you celebrate the end of it with. That's OK. As you grow and change, they grow and change. You will meet new people who will help you grow and you will lose those who hold you back.
3. Friends > Significant Others.
It doesn't matter how special you think that person is, at the end of the day your friends are going to be there when that special someone isn't. Put your loyalty in those that deserve it. Don't take your friends for granted.
4. "I love my damnself."
A reply a guy would always use when a friend said, "I love you." As the semester went on, I realized how true it was. At the end of the day all you have is yourself, so you got to love yourself before others. Put your happiness before those around you because that is for damn sure what they are doing. You have to love yourself before anyone else will.
5. Never Give Up.
No matter how difficult or impossible graduating may seem, you can do it. You may end up being a five-year senior, but that's OK. You will get that degree. Just work at it, seek help when needed and keep your priorities straight. C's get degrees, but I know you can do better.
