I returned home from Steubenville Mid-America in Springfield, Missouri last week with lots of emotions, memories, and love for the Man Upstairs. I attended my first conference the summer after my sophomore year of high school. Now, I am home from my third and final conference wishing I could do it all over again. Here are the five stages of grief: Steubenville edition.

1. Denial

"Is it really over? No, it can't be. Do I really have to go back to the real world? I was having so much fun! Nope. I refuse."

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. You reminisce over the past weekend and wish you can go back. You don't want to accept the fact you have to go back to your normal life. But it's not all bad! At least you can sleep in your own bed and shower in your own bathroom now!

2. Bargaining

"Well, maybe I can sneak into another conference next weekend. Maybe I'll find someone who will be okay with me taking their place. I can do that, right?"

You're pretty much desperate at this point. You don't want to lose that "Jesus high" and you are willing to do whatever it takes to keep it. You can't wait another 365 days for the next summer conference. You want to go again and ASAP!

3. Anger

"I can't believe there will be teens at Steubenville somewhere next weekend who will be rocking out, praising God, and having the time of their life while I get to sit at home and DIE."

Now it's getting heated. You become envious of the other teens all across America who have yet to go to Steubenville. They get to make new friends and dance to awesome music while you sit at home binge-watching Netflix and trying not to cry. It's okay, we've all been there.

4. Depression

"BUT WHY DID IT HAVE TO END?! WHY?!"

You look through your photos from the conference and start sobbing like a baby. What you wouldn't give to experience Eucharistic adoration just one more time. You want to go back to the late nights in your dorm/hotel room with your best friends. You want to go back to the intimate small group talks. You can listen to the songs they played live, but it just isn't the same. Take me back!

5. Acceptance

You finally realize how blessed you were to be able to join thousands of other young, Catholic teens in celebrating God. There's always next year and there's always other conferences. You needed that weekend to remind you how loved you are by Him. And that's enough to make you smile!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
