Going to the gym has always been a constant struggle. It's trying to find the motivation to go that makes it difficult for me half the time. It took me almost more than a month to find a way to stay motivated and it didn't surprise me that the motivation was music. I'm constantly changing my workout playlist on my phone - songs are added, others are removed. But there is a great portion of songs that still remain. Here are my top five songs that always pump me up for a workout!

1. 24k Magic by Bruno Mars

I fell in love with this song from the moment Bruno Mars released it since it was extremely catchy. Plus, listening to this song made me feel like I was in an aerobics class in 1980. Every time I listen to it, it always puts me in an energetic mood (it doesn't matter where I am). It was given that I had to put this in my workout playlist.

2. Fade by Kanye West

To be completely honest, I'm not as much of Kanye West fan. I used to be, but I completely stopped listening to him after the (extremely) long list of things he has said. When the music video for "Fade" came out, I already knew I was going to listen to it often due to its' catchiness. But I didn't become obsessed with the song until it randomly came on shuffle while I was at the gym. The song just reminded me of the music video and where it took place (at an empty gym). Ever since that day, I've kept that song on my playlist.

3. BLKKK SKKKN HEAD (Black Skinhead) by Kanye West

Once again, Kanye West isn't my favorite person to listen to. But most of his older songs are pretty good. Like "Fade" I became obsessed with this song because it was catchy and the music video was one-of-a-kind. When this song comes up on my iPod, I get pretty excited. So, I couldn't resist putting this song on my workout playlist.

4. FORMATION by Beyoncé

Everyone knows that Beyoncé can make empowering songs. The meaning behind "Formation" is already motivational since it's a way to empower women (in particular, women of color). Being in a school where the majority of the students and faculty are white, this song just reminds me that I'm not alone. Not to mention, listening to this song just boosts my confidence and makes me forget about everything going on around me. After listening to this song, I tend to forget about being uncomfortable at the gym.

5. IV. Sweatpants by Childish Gambino

I've been a fan of Childish Gambino for such a long time. For the most part, his music is different from most rappers. This song has always gotten me excited and energized, not matter what the situation is. Whenever I listen to this song at the gym, I get super excited to do my workout (even though it'll be painful).

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
