Unfortunately, summer is not forever. Every single year the entire population lives through this season, knowing that when it is over it is time to go back to school and to prepare for cooler weather. As a college student, I really treasure my summers. I feel like I am so busy during the school year, and I never have any time to just sit and relax. Summer always goes way too quickly in my opinion, and I think there are blatant signs that signify summer is coming to an end.
1. The Calendar Reads "August 1st"
Every year when August 1st hits, people across the globe whine, "Is It really August already?" "That went so quickly!" and "I can't believe summer is almost over already." Although there's still a month left before schools starts, one can definitely feel the end of summer right around the corner. Doing everything that needs to be done between August 1st and the first day of school makes time fly even faster than it did before.
2. You're Receiving Emails From Professors
Your phone is blowing up with emails from your professors about the upcoming fall semester. These emails include general a general "hello," a "can't wait to meet you," a copy of the syllabus, and which books you'll need to buy. Granted, these emails are very helpful when it comes time to preparing for the class, but when you're still three weeks away it puts a damper on your mood. I almost get stressed out every time I read an email like this from a professor.
3. Walmart, Target, etc. Have Their "Back To School" Selection Out
Last weekend you went to the store and the racks up front were filled with swimming accessories and summer toys. Today, those same exact shelves are filled with notebooks, binders, and pencils. You might have come to the store to get a new raft for your pool, but all you can find are school supplies. This is the moment where you sadly sulk your way over to the clearance section.
4. Spending a Fortune on Books
You worked 25 hours this week just to spend your entire paycheck on your textbooks. Unfortunately though, from the looks of it, next week's paycheck will have the same fate. This is probably the worst part of going back to school, for all your "fun money" is officially gone. I don't understand why books are so expensive. Thank goodness for being able to rent though.
5. Tying Up Ends & Getting Organized
Since school is starting in three weeks, you should probably take care of all those little summer duties your professors talked about way back in May. This includes things like updating resumes, renewing clearances, and taking standardized tests specific to your major. It's also time to make sure you have enough supplies to get you through two semesters of classes.
Although summer ending is a complete bummer for most people, it always comes back around every year. It's important to enjoy it while it lasts. If you didn't get to do what you wanted to this summer, plan for next year. You're guaranteed three months of sun and free time once again before you have to get back into the swing of things.
