I did a similar article a few months ago about five books you should read called, Five Books That Changed My Life. Sorry for the self-promotion (kind of). But, now that school has started up again and, if you're like me, you have twelve books you're reading at a time. So, I figured that you'd rather be binge-watching shows in your spare time, trying to will yourself into another world that doesn't involve The Iliad (please put me out of my misery). Here are five shows that I insist you check out. They do require a Netflix or HBO account, but I'm sure you can find a way to stream these shows in other, not-so-legal ways, but you didn't hear that from me.
1. Louie
If you like dry humor, you're going to love this show. First off, Louie C.K. is freaking hilarious, so him having his own show was a seriously amazing idea. I frequently cry laughing while watching him quite literally fail at life in every episode, and it makes me feel a bit better about the fact that I have stacks of work next to me that are simply not getting done.
2. Game of Thrones
Listen, I know you've definitely heard all of your friends who watch this show say, "It's like literally the best show ever." But they aren't kidding. It is. I'm not sure if I've ever felt so emotionally connected to characters before, and then severely hated my life after they got killed off after I started liking them. And, there's eye candy for everyone. Have you seen Khaleesi? God bless.
3. Shameless
This show is brilliant. It follows a dysfunctional family in the South Side of Chicago as they try to navigate addiction, complete and utter mishaps, and making ends meet. It makes me laugh; it makes me cry. It always has me on the edge of my seat, and I cannot get enough of it. I'm also deeply obsessed with Fiona and Lip (two of the main characters), so that alone keeps me coming back.
4. Sex and the City
Look, I know this is an old one, but I've watched it five times already, so I insist that you should too. It's such a "feel" show. I use that term when it's not one emotion that it makes you feel. Friends makes you feel good. One Tree Hill made you cry a lot. Sex and the City does both and then some. It's a classic in my opinion, and if you have not seen it yet, you should, and if you have, watch it again.
5. Stranger Things
This one is for me too. I have not gotten around to watching it yet, but I have had at least ten people tell me that I need to. So, we can binge it together. I hear the cast of kids is absolutely amazing, and any kids that are richer than I am deserve my attention.
Happy binging!
