1. The humor.
It’s raw, it’s real, its even raunchy. Whether it’s a sarcastic remark from Frank, a genuine, innocent question from Deb, or a crazy Kev and Veronica sex scene, you can’t help but laugh.
2. It’s real.
Remember that one time Frank made a comment comparing the Southside of Chicago to the Gardens of Eden? Yeah, I was shocked too. The beauty of this show is it’s relatability to the current events of our time. It also gives insight to the struggles of alcoholism and how it can affect everyone around you. It shows the struggles of making ends meet, and it gives a realistic view of what life is like in the slums of almost any city across America. If you can’t relate to it, you at least gain respect for those who can.
3. It addresses taboos that other shows don’t.
Monica’s Bi-Polar disorder, Deb’s teenage pregnancy, Fiona’s trust issues, Mickey and Ian’s secret gay relationship, Kev and Veronica’s infertility struggles. Shameless sheds light upon issues that many other series do not. Although it is impossible to accurately depict every issue in society, Shameless does a kick ass job at depicting the ones they choose. This show teaches you to be accepting of others issues, rather than judging without knowing the truth.
4. LIP GALLAGHER.
His drop dead looks, his astonishing intelligence, his will to take care of and stick up for his family. Lip Gallagher is the bad boy we all secretly dream of, admit it.
5. The action. All of the action.
There are no boring episodes. You are left hanging in suspense at the end of every episode. Each episode (sometimes every scene) reveals a new twist in the ever-changing plot.
