If you are from Omaha, Nebraska, summer isn't just a season. It also contains the city's biggest event of the year: College World Series. Two weeks of free activities, cute boys in baseball pants from all over the country and the greatest show on dirt.
I live for this short time during the summer and attend as many games as possible. If I meet someone who has never been, I immediately tell them they need to go. The atmosphere and excitement just make my summer. Here are five other reasons why College World Series is the perfect summer activity.
1. Opening ceremonies
The day before the first pitch of the series, a Saturday, TD Ameritrade Park kicks things off right with the Opening Ceremonies. This is a huge event that includes activities for the whole family, the introduction of the eight teams, and fireworks. I spend the whole night down there walking around and soaking in the atmosphere that our city with possessing for the next two weeks.
2. FanFest
Last year, I walked away from the park one day with Reese's, two personalized Coke's, coupons for Buffalo Wild Wings and so much more. They were all for free. That's what FanFest offers, as well as many interactive games. Stands are set up right outside the gates to entertain people while they wait for the night game or for those who wish to not watch the game from inside the park.
3. General admission
Sure, having reserved seats with a good view can be preferred, but sitting in general admission is a guaranteed party. In between innings, you are sure to think you're on a beach with the amount of beach balls, floaties and more you see being thrown in the air. If you're lucky, you may even see a teenage girl jump over the gate to the field.
4. Cute boys (of course)
What's better than cute baseball boys reaching for their dreams of becoming College World Series champions? Not much.
5. Great baseball
History is made on that field. In fact, University of California, Santa Barbara actually just clinched a spot in the series with a walk-off grand slam, and it's their first trip to Omaha. That's huge for a team! Players put their hearts into every play and that makes for some dang good baseball. Count me in.
