During the summer of 2016 I was asked to write for The Odyssey for Lander University. In all honesty, I was very grateful for the opportunity because I have always had a passion to write. I wanted to join The Odyssey but I had no idea how. Thanks to Brianna Byers, I am now apart of this amazing team I like to call family.
Our creators have the most amazing content. We all come from different backgrounds and are all so versatile.
1. You get to write about anything you want.
When I say anything, I mean anything. If you're not having a good week and need a pick me up, head on over to your laptop and bust out some tips that college students could use for motivation during the week. One of our creators just wrote about that and it was so inspirational.
2. You get to meet other people near you who like to write.
When I first started writing I was nervous no one would read my content. Now, on the daily I have people coming up to me at school or texting me saying, "I love that article you wrote, I could relate to it so well". Honestly, that is the best feeling in the world.
Also, when I first started I didn't know anyone on our team. But now, I feel like I know them all and have a great bond with them as well!
3. You get paid if you get the most reads.
If you have a love for writing, getting paid isn't so bad. It doesn't even feel as if you are working. It only feels like you are expressing yourself.
4. Resume.
Once or more in your lifetime you will have to build a resume to get a job. If you put that you write/wrote for The Odyssey, you may have a greater chance at getting that job.
5. Platform on Opinions and World Views.
When you are creating your article for the week, you should most likely look at the current events. In doing so, you might get more shares per week because if the topic is current and interesting them a good number of people will share the article. This is also a good way to get your opinion expressed to the world about your own private views.
