Standing on the shores of Lake Michigan, Frankfort is a thriving little town in Northwest Michigan fully equipped with artisan shops, unique restaurants, and a downtown so picturesque, Pure Michigan says its pristine dunes, beaches, and spectacular sunsets awe visitors and locals alike. With year-round activities ranging from snow sports at Crystal Mountain to floating down the Platte River in the summertime, Frankfort and its surrounding area are the places to be if you’re looking to see some of what beautiful northern Michigan offers while making irreplaceable memories.
If you aren’t convinced yet, other reasons to visit Frankfort are:

And Crystal Lake, of course. With Lake Michigan to its west, Betsie Bay to its south and Crystal Lake to its north and east, Frankfort will fulfill all your water sport and scenic view requirements that come with vacationing. The Frankfort North Breakwater Lighthouse (below)is at the end of the northern breakwater in Lake Michigan, providing visitors with the perfect selfie background and Snapchat story filters.
2. The views
Lake Michigan, the harbor, and the small-town charm accustomed with Victorian homes and cape-cod like villas are really sites to see. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, strolling through the town, or running alongside the marina, you’ll find yourself saying, “wow” or “look at that!”

Homemade barbecue ribs, authentic Asian cuisine and four ice cream shops, what more could one want?
4. There’s always something to do
Walkers, runners, bikers, photographers, and loungers alike all have things to do in Frankfort. You could spend the day perusing around the local shops or hiking the famous trails. Whatever activity floats your boat, Frankfort has the body of water for you.
5. The small town atmosphere
From the people to the shops, the camaraderie is contagious in this town. Before you know it, you’ll find yourself daydreaming about spending your days floating down the Platte river and your nights at the Villa bar with the inviting, friendly, and intriguing locals and fellow tourists alike. I don't know how it does it, but Frankfort has this uncanny ability to bring out the best in people. It's most likely the result of endless ice cream paired with the excuse "I'm on vacation."
