Five Points For Your First Day

We all know college is a big change BUT I am here to make that first day of the big change a bit more comfortable. Here are five ways to have a smooth…er transition:

  1. Be prepared the night before: Yes, I am pulling a mommy-moment in telling you to get your things together the night before. But, why not? Let me tell you the smart reason why: SLEEP. You are going to want to have it all the time between the hours of 4 AM and 11:00 (sometimes 3:00) PM. If you have everything prepared the night before, you can sleep in just in time to throw together an outfit and find your way to class.
  2. Sit in the middle of the classroom: do not be that guy that sits in the back but don’t be that guy that sits front and center. Sit in the middle of the classroom. You’ll sit around a larger group of people, you’re close enough to see, but also far enough away so that you can check your phone for texts and serious updates on GroupMe. Trust me, this seating placement will help you out in the long run.
  3. Make study buddy friends: this sounds so lame. Trust me, I know this. HOWEVER, this is the most important. For example, your advisor tells you that since you are in fact a Pre-Med intended major, you have to take CHEM1211 first semester with a lab….. it’s hard. You’re going to need those study buddies for tests, lab questions, and other hard Pre-Med things. Make those friends on the first day even if you just introduce yourself… DO IT.
  4. Dress comfortably…. Please: If you’re that person that dresses up for class, don’t. Please. You make us feel super duper uncomfortable especially on the first day. That is not a thing (unless you have a presentation in which we will forgive you) so please do not try to make fetch happen (CLASSIC). So, just go for the casual T and norts so you feel comfortable and in case of first day emergencies, you blend in well.
  5. Get excited: This is the first day of the rest of your life. You’re going to get a degree in a few years and this is only the first day of classes. You have four (or more) years to experience college and all that it can give to you. GET EXCITED. College is the most fun you will ever have so go have fun. And even though you may have an 8 AM MWF, a lab that last three hours, or you dropped your coffee – get excited. This is only the beginning. Plus those moments are those things you can put in your GroupMe.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.

Coming from someone majoring in business at a school that thrives off of business majors, I know how rough it can be sometimes. Being a business major can be awesome, and awful, simultaneously.
