Saving our oceans can seem like an unreachable problem and one that we do not often know how to contribute to. This list of five pledges to take in five minutes makes it easy to make a difference immediately.

Each of these movements is filled with people who have made saving the ocean and its marine life their mission and supporting them in their efforts can go a very long way. All you need to do is click on each link and decide whether or not you would like to add your name to a cause that is working to save the ocean either through political policies, awareness, or cleanup methods. I hope you find each movement as inspiring as I did and will take a few minutes to make a difference.

1. Join the #stopsucking Movement

Single-use plastic items are the greatest contributor to our ocean's marine waste today. Make the commitment to #stopsucking and help keep our oceans and our marine life safe. For non-plastic straw, alternatives check out Oceana's Straw Alternatives Page. For more information on why you should join the movement watch Oceana's video.

2. Oceana's Stop Shark Finning Movement

Let your congressmen and women hear your voice when you use the following link to join Oceana in Telling Congress to Ban the Trade of Shark Fins in the US.

3. Oceana's Make Congress Defend the MMPA Movement

Tell your member of Congress to defend whales, dolphins and other marine mammals when you use the following link to join Oceana in Telling Congress to reject all proposed changes to the MMPA.

4. Greenpeace's End Corporation's Plastic Pollution Movement

Use the following link to join Greenpeace by adding your name to a letter Demanding big corporations do their part to end plastic pollution!

5. Clean Seas' Turn the Tide on Plastic Movement

Help Clean Seas in their fight to keep plastic out of our oceans by Signing the Pledge to Fight for Clean Seas.

In order to further help all of these amazing organizations make sure to donate to their cause, or put them on your Christmas list so other people can donate in your name!

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
