Five Places to Travel To Before You Die

Growing up I've had the privilege of being able to travel around the world. My dad was born and raised in Germany, and still has family there, so I've been to Europe countless times. I also have family all over the United States, so I've been lucky enough to travel to various states. I believe that everyone should travel, whether it's inside the United States or to another country. Traveling allows you to open your eyes to new cultures and so much more. You don't even need to leave the country to experience new things. Here is my top five places I believe that everyone should travel to at some point in their lives.

1. Hamburg, Germany.

Hamburg is located in northern Germany and is a major city. It is also the place where my dad spent his childhood years. You can go shopping in some of the best shops the world has to offer, visit the Planten un Blomen (a beautiful park), spend the day with your favorite animals at the Hamburg Zoo, and so much more! I believe that the best months to visit this beautiful city is between the months of May to September when it's warm and perfect outside.

2. San Diego, California.

San Diego, AKA the place I want to move to when I grow up, is one of my favorite places to travel to. I've been there countless times and each time there is always something new to do. Some of my top things to do is visit Old Town, go to the beach in La Jolla, go to the beautiful island of Corrando, and scroll down the streets of Little Italy. There is never a bad time to visit and fall in love with San Diego.

3. Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Boothbay is one of the most beautiful spots in Maine. I have a vacation house in Maine, where I spend the majority of my summers, so I've been to Boothbay Harbor plenty of times. I never get bored of it. You can take a tour on a sailboat, shop until you drop at some of the cutest mom-and-pop shops, eat bright red lobsters, or climb the rocks by the seaside. This spot is a tourist destination so it's not open year-round. I suggest visiting in the months of June to August to make the most of your experience!

4. Colmar, France.

This little town in France seems like something out of a story book. My family and I came across this enchanted town by accident, but I am so glad that we did. Some things to do here are visit Old Town (a medieval town), go to Little Venice, visit the Musee d'Unterlinden, and so much more! I visited Colmar in the spring and it was perfect!

5. Sorrento, Italy.

A few years ago, my grandparents took my whole family and me on a trip to Italy for a couple weeks in the summer. Sorrento was one of my favorite cities! You can go to the Cathedral of Sorrento, Old Sorrento, munch on some real Italian pizza and pasta, take a day trip to Pompeii or Capri, and shop! The possibilities are endless and beautiful!

I hope you get the chance to visit at least one of these places in your lifetime! I have nothing bad to say about any of them and would go to any of them in a heartbeat. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do, as you can see. Have you visited any of these places? Where are some of your favorite places to travel to?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
