If you know anything about me, you know that I love stand-up comedy. I spend most of my time scrolling through Netflix, desperately hoping for a new special to arrive. But here I am going to share with you five of my personal favorites.
1. John Mulaney: New In Town
John Mulaney really kicked off his career as a writer for SNL, so it's quite obvious that he's a funny guy. New In Town is a comedy special that I return to time and time again. Mulaney tells stories about his experiences with Delta Airlines, putting the word "midget" on TV, and Ice-T. Also, if you have the time, his other special Comeback Kid is equally hysterical.
2. Sebastian Maniscalco: Aren't You Embarrassed?
Sebastian Maniscalco describes himself as a cat. He watches the way that people behave, and he criticizes most of the general population. His dramatized movements and inflection leaves everyone holding their sides. If you love people-watching, this guy is for you.
3. Bo Burnham: what.
This special means a whole lot to me, as it was the first special I was ever shown. If I had to be honest, I am forever grateful to my bud for showing this to me, because it changed my life. If you like self-deprecating humor, Bo Burnham was made for you. Bo Burnham uses his musical talents, disillusionment, and sarcastic wit in order to please the millennial masses. I promise, you will not be sorry.
4. Gabriel Iglesias: Hot and Fluffy
Gabriel Iglesias started off his career as a voice actor, which is half of his special Hot and Fluffy. He accurately describes everyday life and his sound affects add a dimension that no other voice actor can do on their own. He makes jokes about his size (as a fat girl I really appreciate that) and talks about his fame. It's a special unlike any other.
5. Louis C.K.: Live at the Beacon Theatre
First off, if you are going to watch this special, be warned: Louis C.K. is not for everyone. His crude sense of humor can easily offend, so enter this with a grain of salt. However, if you are okay with occasionally rolling your eyes, Louis C.K. is a daring and hysterical comedian, who talks about dead bodies, getting away with being an a**hole, and beating his kids at monopoly.
