There are some apps people have at every college campus, such as Yik Yak and Tinder. But the following apps are particularly useful to University of Maryland students.
1. iNextBus. This one is a classic, and is extremely helpful if you need to take the bus a lot -- I am looking at you, North campus residents, a.k.a. freshmen! It lets you know how long until the next bus will get to the closest bus stop to you. You will never appreciate it more than when you are waiting in your building rather than out in the cold.
2. UMD Social Scheduler. This app is awesome because it links your schedule to your Facebook account and shows you who you have class with. So long, texting your schedule to all of your friends only to find out you have nothing together! UMD Social Scheduler even uses your Maps app to tell you how far away you are from each of your classes.
3. The Diamondback. Maybe this is just because I am a journalism major, but I think everyone should have at least one news app on their phone. And since we go to Maryland, it may as well be our campus newspaper. It is important to know what is going on in our world and our community.
4. UMD Finals. This one will be useful in the coming weeks as we take and obsess over our final exams. It compiles a variety of helpful tools -- like a GPA calculator, Route 1 deals, your finals schedule, and stress relief photos of cute puppies for when you need a break.
5. Circle of 6. This is an app everyone should have, regardless of where they go to school. It allows you to select six people you trust to be in your circle. If you don’t feel safe walking home at night, you can press one button that sends your location and a message asking for help to your circle. There are a variety of other options, as well, like calling campus or local police.
