To say that opinions regarding the current President of the United States are sharply divided is an understatement. It's nearly impossible to fire up social media without seeing something controversial or a heated political debate.
This year, musicians have become increasingly vocal about their opinions, and if there's one outlet that's perfectly suited for expressing how you feel, music is certainly a creative way to go about it. Regardless of how you feel about the current political climate or the Commander in Chief, if the following acts decided to add their two cents about how they feel about Trump, it should be an interesting listen.
Madonna
From her pledge to give everyone who voted for Hillary Clinton a blowjob to her questionable choice of words when she suggested “blowing up” the White House, the singer has not been mum about how she feels nor is it the first time.
In 2003 Madonna also generated controversy when she released the original video for her single “American Life” off of the album of the same name, which showed her throwing a grenade towards a man who looked a lot like then President George W. Bush. After receiving heavy criticism, the video was pulled and eventually replaced with a much tamer one showing her singing in front of a series of flags.
With her feelings regarding Donald Trump already well-known, it may only be a matter of time before she decides to release another politically charged album.
OutKast
Unfortunately, the incredibly talented duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 are still on an indefinite hiatus. However, if they were to release new material, the results are practically guaranteed to be as catchy and creative as they are thought provoking. From the very beginning when they released their classic debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, the duo has always had plenty of substance behind their style.
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below brought us the inescapable hit “Hey Ya!” Behind its fun, danceable exterior were much darker lyrics discussing doubts and concerns about a romantic relationship and getting cold feet. Who's to say they can't do it again, masking their opinions about the President beneath their creative compositions?
Dixie Chicks
In 2003 the best selling country music band quickly became public enemy number one when lead singer Natalie Maines expressed her less than favorable opinion about the same politician Madonna tried to fictitiously murder via hand grenade: George W. Bush. The statement made by Maines was downright blasphemous, resulting in people going as far as crushing their CDs in public.
Instead of doing the easy thing and apologizing, the Chicks stuck to their guns and defiantly released “Not Ready to Make Nice”, winning three Grammy Awards.
The Dixie Chicks have kept mum regarding their opinion of Donald Trump, but just imagine the possibilities!
Eminem
If his early days were any indication, Eminem knew how to press buttons and raise eyebrows with his music. From the violent “Kim” to his attacks on celebrities and alleged homophobia, the man was able to grab attention.
Eminem keeps a low profile nowadays and time seems to have mellowed and matured him, along with his lyrics. With a different outlook on life and plenty of experience under his belt, an album or single touching on the current political climate or Trump himself would be a fascinating listen.
Kanye West
Love him or hate him, when “Yeezy” talks, people listen. Never one to hold back how he feels or doubt his importance, Kanye’s outspoken views have earned him tons of press. Let us not forget this is the same guy who famously told the world “George Bush doesn't care about black people” during a Hurricane Katrina benefit concert.
His polarizing nature aside, Kanye has consistently released music worth listening to. His opinions regarding the President of the United States would be absolutely riveting to listen to, and they're practically guaranteed to make headlines.
There are plenty of other artists I've left off of this list. What are some of your suggestions?
