Let's talk about female domination. When it comes to the action genre, women are normally set aside. For the longest time, female characters are placed in a role to lend a helping hand to the male protagonist in some particular way. With this is mind, movies that have surfaced that feature a strong female lead have proven to be excellent works of art. From kicking butt to showing a lesser known softer side, these top five movies with a female lead explain exactly why women rule the world.

1. "Hanna"

"Hanna" is a 2011 action film directed by Joe Wright. The movie features a 16-year-old Hanna who was purposefully raised to be the perfect assassin. In view of the unfinished business within Hanna's family, she must put her training to the test against CIA program operatives.

2. "SALT"

Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) is a CIA officer who's integrity is questioned after a colleague accuses her of being a Russian spy. Now as a convicted prisoner, Salt must use every skill obtained from years of experience to avoid prosecution.

3. "Lucy"

This 2014 French science fiction action film written and directed by Luc Besson. A woman accidentally finds herself caught in a dark deal that eventually leads her to unveil her inner warrior.

4. "DEBS"

D.E.B.S is a 2004 American action-comedy film written and directed by Angela Robinson. This film is both a parody and modernized recreation of "Charlie's Angels."

5. "Colombiana"

"Colombiana" is a 2011 French action film co-written and produced by Luc Besson and directed by Olivier Megaton. "Colombiana" is one of those films where the viewer applauds the lead actress for kicking serious tail. Actress Zoe Saldana shows off her skill for dominating multiple roles in a single film while addressing the seriousness of family appreciation.
