In today's television world, it seems like more shows get revived than new shows get created, and thats not a bad thing! We've already seen shows like "Full House" and "DuckTales" get revived. We know that "Hey Arnold!" will be back in November with its series finale and there are even talks about a "Rugrats" revival, but what about some other nostalgic shows? Here are my five picks for shows that need to be revived.
"Rocket Power"
Though "Rocket Power" had a proper series finale, wouldn't it be awesome to see it get revived even for a one-off special? By now the Rocket gang would be young adults like many of us and it would be great to see where they are. Is Otto a professional athlete? Is Reggie a popular writer? Twister has got to be making some movies! Oh, and Sam is definitely revolutionizing technology. I would be so interested to see if they are all close or if there is a rift. Could something like the closing of the Shore Shack or the death of someone close to them bring them together again? Sadly, the voice actor who played Tito died, which almost makes you wonder if they would go down that path for a Nick at Nite television special on their 90s centric segment, "The Splat." Seeing the characters go through some deeper, more emotional times would accurately reflect life and getting older. Otto and Reggie losing their mom when they were young was already a touchy subject that the show approached. Regardless of whether or not a said special would be dark or light-hearted, I think all of us would love to take a trip to Ocean Shores once more.
"Goof Troop"
"Goof Troop" may not have been as popular as "DuckTales" when it aired, but it had a cult following and spawned "A Goofy Movie" and "An Extremely Goofy Movie." With the revival of "DuckTales," it almost seems like a no brainer to revive "Goof Troop" as well. I suppose the question would be whether to reboot it like the "DuckTales" revival show or make it in real time. Personally, I'd rather see Goofy and Max's adventures with their family in present day since the characters have aged rather than have Max and P.J. as kids again, but at the same time I wouldn't be totally against the reboot since the movies are not totally direct follow ups to the show and because I didn't see as much of "Goof Troop" as I would have liked growing up.
"Animaniacs"
I wrote an article in the past on why "Animaniacs" is so awesome and now more than ever does a revival seem like a no brainer. It probably has the largest cult following of any animated or non-animated show out there. Hell, all of the voice actors put on live shows at conventions practically every single month so they would obviously all be down for a revival. Since the show always appealed to all ages, I would be interested to see how they handle the current climate of the world. Their social commentary on Donald Trump, social media, and boycotts would be amazing and could be like a more family friendly version of "South Park," especially since it almost always kind of was. Let's hope someone at Warner Bros. finally gives "Animaniacs" the revival it deserves.
"Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide"
I don't think anyone is dying for a revival of this show, but it could work. The show almost got a spin off with Ned surviving high school, but it got cancelled early on. I think I definitely could have used Ned's tips in high school and college and it would have been interesting to see how he would handle more adult topics. For now, we all need is to go to Devon Werkheiser's YouTube page for his "Life Survival Guide."
"Codename: Kids Next Door"
"KND" was another show that ended properly, but creator Tom Warburton intended on the show continuing in a spinoff called "Galactic Kids Next Door," which would have explored Numbuh One's adventures as an operative in space and possibly reuniting with his former team on at least one mission. In fact, Warburton already drew sketches of the show and created test footage that he leaked in order for it to go viral and get the attention of fans. Despite all of the hard work, the show wasn't picked up by Cartoon Network, but Warburton is still optimistic, as are his loyal fans who created a petition for it to get revived. Hopefully the network will reconsider or Netflix or Disney XD will pick it up, because it sounds like a lot of fun and will add more to the lore of the show that so many fans love.
