As we get closer to the end of the school year, many of us look forward to going home and planning vacations. Others may be looking forward to binge on a new television series. I myself, am one of the few to do more of the last option, but as I was thinking about some of the different shows to catch up on, I recalled some of my favorite episodes from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart that I saw with my mother as a young child. I remember how they would always give me a good laugh, especially in rough times. I hope that some of you enjoy these same comedic satirists as much as I did.
1. Jon Stewart
This is one of my all-time favorites. Well known for hosting The Daily Show, Jon Stewart enlightened his viewers on current events in the political world, while also providing some hilarious commentary on it as well. Unfortunately, he retired from hosting The Daily Show in 2015, but he does make guest appearances on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show and you can still find some of his comedy from The Daily Show on Youtube. I’d recommend this to many people to watch.
2. Trevor Noah
Trevor is a South African immigrant who took over The Daily Show when Jon Stewart retired. He has also done stand-up comedy before taking over The Daily Show and uses his comedy to bring up racial issues, politics, and his experiences in the U.S. He has done a good job on The Daily Show and has slowly gained the hearts of The Daily Show audience and may get yours too.
3. Stephen Colbert
Stephen Colbert was well known for The Colbert Report, before The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Colbert in The Late Show tries to incorporate politics in his comedy and at times would pretend to be his exaggerated Republican personality from The Colbert Report. His comedy is another great one and will be for a while.
4. John Oliver
John Oliver is a British comedian who was well known for his comedic skits as a political correspondent on The Daily Show. Now, he is the host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and like Colbert, works politics into his show to provide some great comedy and was quite vested in the election which would inspire his viewers, and possibly inspire even you, as well.
5. Bassem Youssef
Bassem Youssef was an Egyptian heart surgeon who took up comedy to help provide commentary on the situations the people of Egypt were facing. Unfortunately, his show television series The Show was terminated after allegations made against him for mocking the Egyptian government and Islam. Youssef moved to the U.S. after the pressure from the government proved too much and created his own comedic series Democracy Handbook which mocked the democracy here in the U.S. There is also a documentary about his comedy in Egypt called Tickling Giants, which I look forward to watching over the summer.
I know that there a few more that I can put, such as Seth Meyers, Amy Schumer, the cast of SNL, etc., but this list primarily consisted of a few that I myself enjoy personally, and hope others will come to enjoy as well.
