As most of you are aware, "Rogue One" recently hit theatres and regardless of what you think about the movie, you have to admit that a lot of "Star Wars" characters and lines from the films tend to go semi-viral. Growing up we always heard "May the force be with you" or "Do or do not, there is no try." There is the instant classic, "No, I am your father!" Last year, two famous lines we heard in "The Force Awakens" were "Thats not how the force works!" and "Traitor!" So, in honor of these classic "Star Wars" lines, I thought it would be fun to pick out five "Rogue One" lines that are sure to go viral.
"Save the rebellion, save the dream"
Saw Gerrera, the guy who said this line, is bat shit crazy and does some bat shit crazy things, but this line will be remembered by a lot of people for a while. For one thing, it was in quite a few trailers, but more importantly it was delivered in such a cheesy, distinct, over-the-top way that I can just see the memes and imitations of it popping up on the internet. Good job "Rogue One," you got yourself a good joke line for us to repeat over and over again even if it wasn't intended to be funny!
"Do not choke on your aspirations."
Who knew Darth Vader can be funny when he chokes people? Even though a lot of fan boys hated this line, many loved it and this was literally an invitation for the internet to make Darth Vader even more of a meme than he already is! Sure, we can argue that it wasn't a pun as much as it was Vader being a dick, but either way the Internet wins by getting this line because the Internet always wins.
"Stardust."
Even though this is more of a phrase rather than a quote, I think it's fair to say that people will not stop saying "stardust" after seeing "Rogue One." The good thing about this word for the Internet, or just in general when it comes to quoting "Star Wars," is that it can be said in many different inflections as intended. Who knows, maybe you'll say it dramatically, lovingly, or in anger, but that just goes to show how impactful the line is. I suppose the Internet can make this a meme even if there isn't a clear path for a joke, but then again who am I to question the clever way the Internet can make the simplest of things a meme?
"I am one with the force, the force is with me."
If you've seen the film or even know who Chirrut Imwe is, you know that this had to be on the list. Chirrut says this so many times that it gets burnt into your brain and almost makes you inspired to quote (or make a meme of) the phrase whether you want to or not. Out of all of these quotes, I can see this one becoming the most popular, but also the most annoying. If there is any line that your friend or casual fan will remember, it will be this one, for better or worse.
"I rebel."
Even though this line isn't in the movie, we've all heard it so many times in the trailers. Like everything on the internet, this line was hella divisive. Some people liked the spunk Jyn gave when she said the line and others hated it. In fact, if this were in the movie, people would only remember it because it was divisive and because it was kind of an off line rather than fitting within the context of the scene. I smell some spunky, sarcastic memes on the horizon.
There you have it, some "Rogue One" lines sure to go viral/get trendy/be made a meme of. What, are you mad that I didn't add any of K-2SO's lines? I could have, but it is it really fair to do that if he was only there to serve as the witty joke robot? Right, I didn't think so.
