It's a brand new year, and that means that there might be some catching up for you to do. While the holidays are a lot of fun, there's also a lot of partying and calories that come along with them. A lot of people have goals to get back on track in the new year, whether you're one of them or not, it's still important to refresh and rejuvenate your body after a few weeks, or months, of packing on the calories. Whether it's by drinking a little too much alcohol, or just munching on a few more cookies than you expected, we're all guilty of indulging a little too much. But have no fear, there's plenty of time to cancel out those calories! So here's some tips to help you get back on track and give your body a fresh start in this brand new year.

1. Take care of your mental health and wellbeing.

Let's face it, if you're not where you want to be mentally, you're never gonna get where you want to be physically. The biggest obstacle to get over when it comes to staying in shape and living a healthy lifestyle is that little voice in your head telling you that you can't do it, or it's not worth it. If you're taking care of your mental health, and valuing who you are as a person, you're already one step closer to living a healthier lifestyle.

2. Try a cleanse.

Whether it's a juice cleanse, or you're drinking some tea (which is what cleanse I'm doing right now) both are great options to flush out all of those toxins and calories that are in your system now.

3. Drink lots of water.

Water is another great way to keep your body running clean and smooth. It's helps to flush out toxins in your system, keep your metabolism going, and keep you feeling good. Staying hydrated is so important to make sure that you're feeling like your best self everyday.

4. Get on a clean diet.

This is one that I'm trying to keep myself on as well. While I love drinking water and focusing on self-care and love, I struggle with following a clean diet. I love carbs. Pizza, pasta, bread, you name it, I'll eat it. And at the same time, I'm not the biggest fan of salads as a meal. So I'll be working hard to follow some of my own tips as well!

5. Get into a workout schedule.

There's truly power in strength and confidence. While mental health is really the first step to getting into a healthy routine, there's no better way to bolster your self-confidence than by working out and seeing change and growth in your body.

So here's a few tips to take into the new year with you to make 2018 your best and healthiest year yet! It's hard to stay on track during the holidays, but there's no better time to get back on the wagon than in a brand new year.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
