Halloween is upon us, and there are many places that are haunted. For Ohio, there are many places of superstition, hauntings, and sightings. Here are 5 places that you may want to stay weary from if you're superstitious. All of these places not only in Ohio, but I personally live relatively close to them:

1. The Hinkley Library. Located in Hinkley, Ohio, this library was built with a small, white house from the 1840s. The owner of the small house was a sister of Dr. Nelson Wilcox, her name unknown. Legend has it that she passed away at a tragic young age. In the 1970's people began reporting sightings of a mysterious girl wearing an old dress from the 19th century. Librarian staff members have countlessly reported seeing small objects move on their own without assistance. The girl still haunts the library till this day.

2. Interstate 71 Man. Found on the interstate to Medina, Ohio, there have been countless reports of a mysterious hitchhiker on the road. The appearance is of a regular man; tan rain coat, dark hair. Drivers have reportedly seen the man, and when the car lights flash the man, he is apparently transparent.

3. Ohio Northern University. Located in Presser Hall, the music building at the University, this building is known for the ghost called Brad. Legend states that Brad passed away on his way to a recital, and his spirit roams the building. Whenever a student plays in a D-minor, you can hear Brad isn't pleased. When a D-minor is played, incidents involved a mysterious banging coming from the piping within the building. Other instances have been the large chandelier swinging on its own. Another haunted place is the 5-Up Dorm. During a fraternity pledging/hazing event playing Donkey Kong, a pledge was running up the stairs avoiding the kegs being thrown at him. One hit his head and died. A girl also committed suicide in the dorm, and can be seen in her dorm room sometimes. Every now and then students see a young man running up the stairs. 5-Up is no longer an active dorm at ONU.

4. Crybaby Bridge: The bridge is located near Lima, Ohio. It is also the bridge where one may encounter "Bloody Mary" herself. The bridge is formally called the Greely Chapel Bridge. Many years ago, a woman was killed in an automobile accident with her baby, and you can hear a baby's cries every now and then. However, the most terrifying aspect of the story involves a group of teenagers, rather than the baby and their mother. Several teenager's body parts were scattered all around the area mysteriously after their car stalled near the bridge. The drivers body hung at the stop sign. Officials have stated that the stop sign had to be replaced several different times due to the stop sign constantly "bleeding", or having a heavy amount of blood on the sign itself.

5. Lima Correction Institute. Located again in Lima, Ohio, the institute is well known for having a female guard giving prisoners food even after being fed. Inmates soon realized that the woman was in fact a former employee, only many, many years ago. Additionally, inmates have often felt a presence near their beds, sometimes a mysterious man would tuck them into bed without any explanation. The prison closed in 2004 but is off limits according to the state.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
