Halloween is in a few weeks and as a kid this was the second best holiday next to Christmas. Free candy and playing dress up, who wouldn't get excited about that? Well besides the candy, there were a two other factors that went into my house around Halloween time. One was that we got to decorate the whole house with pumpkin lights and other spooky decorations, and two Halloween movies. But there were only a few movies and one channel that made Halloween great. That of course was the Disney Channel Original Movies. What 90s kid doesn't remember those. They were the best movies of all time. Here is my top five best Halloween movies all 90s kids loved.
1. "Halloween Town"
Who didn't want to be Marnie, or a witch for that sake? Everyone wanted to have a cool grandma and be able to travel on a bus to Halloweentown. It was such a hit that they ended up making Halloweentown Two, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown. All which were pretty good, but none could compare to the first.
2. "Hocus Pocus"
I know this isn't a Disney Channel Original movie but who doesn't love this classic film. When I think of Halloween I think of "Hocus Pocus." This was a favorite in my house and we still watch it every year to this day. It really wouldn't be Halloween without "Hocus Pocus." Also, if you are really in the Halloween spirit go to Salem, MA where you can take a tour and see where some of this movie was filmed.
3. "Don't Look Under The Bed"
This was definitely the scariest movie I watched when I was a kid. It was where my fear of the Boogy-man can from and why I was always terrifies to look under my bed, there was no way I was looking under there for weeks, let alone sleeping without a nightlight. You definitely don't see Disney Channel Movies like this nowadays.
4. "Twitches"
Who didn't watch "Sister Sister" growing up? I know I did. When this movie came out I was more excited to see Tia and Tamera Mowry than the actually movie, but it ended up being on of my favorite Halloween movie. Two twins with magical powers that never knew each other existed. This was another Halloween favorite. Although it was not nearly as scary as "Don't Look Under the Bed," it has it's moments.
5. "Mom's got a date with a vampire"
Another Disney classic. Sure they wanted their mom to go out on a date, but the didn't want her to go with a vampire. And who doesn't remember the mom from "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and the Dimitri as the Mr. Sheffield from "The Nanny." Every great 90s actor in one movie.
Although these movies are from the past doesn't mean we have to forget about them and who says we can't watch them again? Make some popcorn, open some candy corn and transfer yourself back to the good ol' days this Halloween.
