And Netflix really does have everything, from indie films to Disney movies to sitcoms. But once you've gone through your typical binge of Grey's Anatomy or The Office, you might be looking for something new and refreshing. So grab your laptop and the snack of your choice and kick back the seat.
1. 'The OA'
Netflix Original The OA is a science fiction fantasy hybrid about a blind girl named Prairie who, after being missing for 7 years, suddenly returns to her home with restored sight. It's a thrilling plot line filled with alternate dimensions, intense originality, and stunning visuals. You'll be hooked from the first episode in.
2. 'Twin Peaks'
David Lynch's cult classic is equal parts crime drama, science fiction, and thriller, and is considered one of the most popular shows of all time. Set in the fictional Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks, an FBI agent investigates the murder of well known high school student Laura Palmer. With intriguing cinematography, plenty of satire, and quirky characters, Twin Peaks is a lot of fun that is also not quite what it seems.
3. 'House'
One of the most enthralling medical dramas, House is quite an intelligent show. Focusing on Dr. Gregory House and his team of advanced medical professionals, they solve cases with a mix of formal procedures like tests and diagnoses, as well as more non-traditional methods. Full of witty dialogue and exciting plot lines, House is where medical drama meets crime drama meets mystery.
4. Marvel's 'Jessica Jones'
Jessica Jones is a Netflix Original, based off of the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Krysten Ritter portrays the title character, who is a private investigator with what one would call "superhuman" abilities. Rich with dark themes and tense situations, Jessica Jones isn't quite your average Marvel flick. If you enjoy mystery and strong female characters, this is the show for you.
5. 'The X-Files'
One of the most well-known science fiction dramas is The X-Files, a show about two FBI agents working on cases that have to do with the supernatural and seemingly impossible. Skeptical as they might be, it turns out aliens and conspiracies and alternate dimensions may be all too real.
6. 'Stranger Things'
If you haven't heard of Stranger Things, chances are you've been living under a rock. You've probably heard your friends say things like, "watch Stranger Things!!" And they're right. You should watch it. Set in the 1980s in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, a young boy named Will Byers disappears. No one knows what happened to him, except perhaps for an enigmatic girl with telekinetic abilities. What surfaces from there is something more sinister, and well, stranger.
