Raise your hand if you're that person who gets giddy and overly joyful when someone mentions Dwight Shrute, Dr. McDreamy, Leslie Knope, Piper Chapman, or Francis and Claire Underwood. Don't worry, I'm right there with you. I have to admit after watching "Grey's Anatomy," I feel like I can diagnose just about anything that pops up in my life. I also have to admit I feel like I should go buy a $500 suit after watching Claire Underwood wear the pants to the max in her marriage and in politics. To be honest and quite possibly crass, I think the immense world of Netflix is shafted at times and taken for granted. Whether you want a new show to binge-watch instead of studying or need a reason not to be basic, look no further! Check out these lesser known shows below to switch up your daily Netflix routine!
1. "New Girl"
If you're a Dunder Mifflin or Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department guru, this show is right up your alley. Jess Day, a quirky, cute-as-a-button teacher, and her closest guys friends are bunking together in an L.A. apartment living the dream. This show is full of unexpected plot twists and turns, dirty humor and awkwardness that will make your cheeks hurt from chuckling so much. This unforgettable combination of a law school dropout, a narcissistic fashionista and a competitive jock who can't quite seem to close the yearbook will keep you up until three in the morning laughing your butt off.
2. "Turn: Washington's Spies"
For those of you who hate "stupid humor" (you're weird), I have a great suggestion for you guys too! Now, the show doesn't pick up for about four episodes, so you have to pay close attention. "Turn: Washington's Spies" will you have on the edge of your seat freaking the BLEEP out. A cabbage farmer by the name of Abraham Woodhull becomes a part of the Culper Ring, which spies on the British Headquarters during the Revolutionary War. These young, rebellious men give all of this top secret information to the Continental Army. Every second of each episode plays a key role in a series of complicated events that may or may not spiral out of control. For all the history buffs out there, get ready for a nail biter where not a single character can be trusted.
3. "The League"
Looking for a total bro-show that defines manhood/male stupidity at its finest? This is totally the show for you. "The League" revolves around a group of great friends whose lives consist of fantasy football and fantasizing about women. Now, I have to warn everyone that this show is extremely raunchy and shouldn't be watched if you get offended easily. Ladies, you may hate the male gender stereotype that is portrayed in this show. Guys, you'll totally dig it. Check it out!
4. "Making a Murderer"
Sorry about it, but I've got to reach out to my horror/scary stuff lovers out there in the world. This documentary series circles around Steven Avery, a man convicted of sexual assault and murder who was let go and then eventually arrested again for a separate murder. It's sort of a sick, twisted story at times that will have your brain going what the fu..dge? You may or may not think you should be a part of the F.B.I. after watching this series, so get a grip on reality before you start watching. Get ready for a wild, weird ride as soon as you press play.
5. "Chelsea Does"
I hope there's at least one other person in the world who has scrolled through the TV channels at midnight, landed on E! Network, and watched "Chelsea Lately." Chelsea Handler is known for crass, hysterical humor and saying whatever she wants whenever. However, this show takes a slight turn from normal Chelsea behavior. On "Chelsea Does," she discusses controversial topics, such as racism, marriage and much more. Chelsea often mocks her life (and others) while on the comedian's stage, but she dives really deep into some of life's toughest topics. Don't worry, she still drops hysterical jokes and inappropriate comments, but this time, we get a glimpse into this jokester's mind and what her ideologies really are.
