Who doesn't love summer vacation? Sunny weather, perfect for eating ice cream cones. College students seem to drool over the idea of three solid(ish) months of rest and relaxation. Heading home for the summer definitely does bring some benefits, such as:
1. The comforts of home
You can finally spend quality time with your family, in a familiar setting. It’s good to be back with dad, mom, and the pets. And you get a break from cafeteria food for a while, since you have a kitchen around. You can read in the bathtub, or sing in the shower. Speaking of shower, you don’t have to wear flip-flops! And you don’t need quarters to do laundry.
2. Having your own room
I actually hate this, and miss my roommate every single second of summer. I’ve been told, however, that it is nice to have your own room after sharing all year long. (Whatever.)
3. Space and quiet
You no longer have to sleep in a loft, or live in a box. The walls are not paper thin, and you (probably) won’t hear rambunctious people running down the hall screaming at 3 a.m. — and you (most likely) won't have to deal with fire alarms getting pulled at that time either. Not to mention, you can get away from whoever has bugged you during the school year (no drama).
4. A change of scenery
You get out of your college town, and (usually) go back to your hometown. You can hit all the old haunts, and see your old friends and classmates, if you chose. You can go to all of your favorite places, or on new adventures around the world (or the adjacent small town).
5. Time away/alone
You’re no longer confined to a class schedule. You can practice/work out on your own.You don’t have to socialize if you chose not to. You can hide at your home and watch Netflix all summer. You have time to get yourself together, and mentally prepare for another year.
