Five Best Disney Dads

Father's Day was this past Sunday and I was glad to celebrate my father for teaching me many things. Disney Dads are very much like real fathers, protective, strong, and amazing. Here are some great Dads that Disney has given to some of our favorite characters.

Fa Zhou - Mulan (1998)

A war hero and a father of a headstrong girl like Mulan, Zhou must be one hell of a man. Zhou at the beginning seems dismissive and rude to his daughter. However, he genuinely cares for his family and his country. He has a deep sense of nationalism and when he is called to fight, it is hard to say no. Zhou proves himself a good father when Mulan returns home with gifts from the Emperor. Zhou tells Mulan, “the greatest gift and honor, is having you for a daughter.” He only cares about the safety of his beloved daughter.

Fergus - "Brave" (2012)

One of the comical characters, Fergus jokes with his daughter and is a fantastic story teller. He has fun with his daughter and with his three sons. He taught Merida how to shoot a bow and to be herself. Fergus is the perfect balance between instructive and whimsical. Fergus may not always be helpful when it comes to the serious things but he does love his children. He loves his family and doesn’t want to see his daughter be forced to do something she does not want to do. He is a great father to his son’s and loves them and his wife greatly.

Pacha - "Emperor's New Groove" (2000)

He loves his family and would do anything for them, even follow around a spoiled llama to ensure his family and village’s safety and security. Pacha is not only the father of his little family but of his village, he is their leader and is responsible for them. Pacha shows the forgiveness and the ferocious love of a father. He forgives Kuzco for trying to him and he shows that he would do anything for his family. He even adopts Kuzco into his family.

Marlin - "Finding Nemo" (2003)

One of the best dads in Disney is the fish that searched the ocean for his son. Marlin wants the best for his son and is extremely protective of Nemo. This of course leads to Nemo feeling smothered and his eventual kidnapping. Marlin searches for a long time for his son and meets sharks and pelicans and schools of fish just to find his only son. Marlin is also a single dad who lost his wife and almost all of his children. He is never discouraged even when raising his son and he loves Nemo dearly.

Mufasa - "The Lion King" (1994)

In my opinion, Mufasa is the best dad in all of Disney. Mufasa is the king of the Safari and an amazing father. He teaches his son well and saves him from danger. Mufasa has a lot on his table, ruling over the Safari, dealing with a homicidal vengeful brother, and taking care of a mischievous adventurous son, but he makes time for Simba. Mufasa not only protects his son and his kingdom but pays the ultimate price for his son. While trying to save Simba, Mufasa is killed by his brother, but that is beside the point. Mufasa dies to save his son. He fights for Simba and teaches him the importance of humility and it is okay to be afraid.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
