5 Awesome Throwback Trends

Lately, it seems like the hottest fashion trends are all about the throwbacks and everyone seems to be absolutely loving it. It used to be frowned upon to wear some of your moms hand-me-downs, but now, it's totally acceptable to snag her dated high-waisted shorts she used to rock back when she was younger. They say fashion repeats itself, and that shows to be true this year with all of these various fashion items becoming fashion staples for everyone across the world.

1. Scrunchies

These adorable hair accessories gained their popularity back in the late 80s, early 90s. Back then, most women wore their hair in a side pony, but this accessory has been the star of many fashion looks for young adults today. They are not only super functional, but they look awesome in a half up, half down look. A scrunchie does not only look cute in your hair, but as a wrist accessory too! Add a scrunchie to your next look for the ultimate throwback outfit.

2. Chokers

Chokers seriously go way back in time, but this fashion piece is particularly interesting because of it's history. A woman who wore a choker throughout history signified many different things, depending on the era. It's popularity came back in the 90's and now, the tight necklace is one of the most influential trends to come back into the limelight. This piece can take the most basic outfit to the next level.

3. Jean Skirts

Something all of us girls probably rocked back in elementary school is now an up-and-coming trend for the summer and fall. Even though your jean skirt from back then probably doesn't fit you anymore, this piece is one everyone should try once again. It's a very versatile piece of clothing, so you could style it with just about anything like a crop top or an over-sized flannel.

4. High-Waisted Anything

The high-waisted trend is not new to any fashion lovers out there, but it for sure had the biggest comebacks of all time. From pants, to shorts, to skirts, high-waisted anything is certainly IN this year, and I'm sure many years to come. This style makes it super easy to wear crop tops without them looking too showing, and makes any tucked in shirt look super cute and trendy.

5. Brown/Nude Lipstick

If I remember correctly, the 90s were the time when brown and nude lipstick was in. The trend died down in the 2000s, but found its fame again this year. Nude lips have become the most popular make up trend, and it's only just the beginning. It seems like every popular make up brand has come out with some sort of nude lip line, and everyone is absolutely loving it. This trend is great because it suits all skin types, and makes everyone look natural and beautiful.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
