"Music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music"-Billy Joel
I am constantly discovering new music and rediscovering old favorites. Here I put together a list of five albums that I have been enjoying recently.
The Cab- Symphony Soldier (2011): This band and this album specifically have been one of my favorites for a long time. I discovered them on one of my Pandora stations and have been hooked ever since. The Cab is a pop rock band and I think that they are really underrated. The music on Symphony Soldier ranges from ballads like Endlessly and Lovesick Fool to more rock pieces like Angel With a Shotgun. If you like Greek Fire, The Fray, older Coldplay, or the Script you should check out this album.
We The Kings -Somewhere Somehow (2013): We the Kings biggest hit song Check Yes Juliet was released in 2007. I was introduced to the band when I got a hand-me-down iPod from my aunt that still had some music on it. We The Kings may be my all time favorite band and Somewhere Somehow is my favorite album. The energy of the songs combined with the lyrics makes for easy listening, dancing or working out. My favorites are Any Other Way, I Feel Alive, Queen of Hearts, and Sad Song.
Halsey -Badlands (2015): This album is truly unique and was surprising the first time I listened to it. The lyrics are moody, raw and the accompanying electronic music helps to set it apart. I especially like listening to Halsey songs when I am in the mood to choreograph or dance. My favorites from the Badlands album are Roman Holiday, Colors, and Drive.
Brooklyn Duo-Brooklyn Sessions IV (2015): I enjoy listening to classical music while I study and I discovered the album this week. The Brooklyn Duo are a Canadian husband and wife pair who have recorded many covers of popular songs on piano and cello. This album includes covers of 7 Years, Pillowtalk, Thinking Out Loud, and even a Star Wars Medley among others.
Lights- The Listening (2009): Lights is a Canadian singer who records electronic music and acoustic covers of her songs. The Listening may be an older album but I only recently discovered it thanks to one of my friends. The album has an upbeat feel, but the lyrics are a bit darker which makes for an interesting listening experience. My favorite songs from this album are Second Go, Face Up and Lions!.
