Five Activities to do during Lockdown

While being locked down in quarantine, boredom has taken over thousands of American lives. The thought of learning a new language or going through our to-read list has crossed our minds, but the appeal isn't as strong now that our pj's are on, and Disney plus is on our phones. The natural human tendency of complete laziness is confusing our Wednesdays to our Sundays. One problem is that we are not getting out as much, and our body is becoming used to just sitting around. Exercise is hard, though, and sometimes impractical in the confinement of our homes. It also is easier to just stay in our pj's, so here are five fun activities that can get you can do in your pj's during the lockdown.

  1. Baking

You have already gained you quarantine fifteen, so you might as well embrace it and make yourself some good food. There is no need to even go to the store and expose yourself to the corona with the website myfridgefood.com at your fingertips. This site takes what you have in your fridge or pantry and gives you recipes you can make with that. Therefore, meaning no need to leave the house, you already have everything you need at home.

2. Learn an Instrument

Now there may not be any really practical way to get piano or guitar lessons right now, and do you really want to make a big investment on an instrument while the economy is crashing right now. Yet, there is an instrument that takes no money to obtain, your voice. Singing is such a fun activity that even has been known to release oxytocin, a stress relief hormone, and we all know we need to relieve ourselves from stress right now. Many vocal coaches have taken this quarantine time to create YouTube channels to teach about the technique of singing. Teachers like Keri Ho and Madeleine Harvey have created helpful videos on how to improve your voice and vocal range.

3.Yoga

Another good stress relief is yoga. It is easy to do to. You don't truly need a yoga mat to do it properly, and as long as you're not wearing heavy flannel pajamas, then there is no need to get dressed. All you need is a small area of ground and a YouTube video. Then you can get to stretching and meditating your problems away.

4.Sewing

Masks are not cheap. The disposable ones can cost twenty dollars a box. Not truly a purchase you want to make right now, but with mask mandates popping up around the country, obtaining a mask is crucial. It would be easy to go on Etsy and buy a mask, but what would be more fun than making one. It is a cheap, easy activity that you can do while in lockdown. We don't know how long this virus will last, so why not make enough masks to match each of your outfits. There has never been a better time to get creative.

5.Makeover

We have all started trying a new look once quarantine began. I know I did. I put a temporary dye in my hair, and then I cut it into a bob. Both horrible decisions. There is no better time to do this, though. No one can see you. All you have to do if your look comes out wrong is continue quarantining, and everyone will respect your decision to stay home, so why not try something new. Get a new hairdo, paint your nails, try to perfect that perfect eye wing. No one can see your mistakes, so own them and create a new quarantine look. A favorite look of mine has been the evening makeup and hair look in the footy pj's.

Quarantine has been long, but there are still more things we can do. Hopefully, our doctors and scientists can figure out how to solve this pandemic. In the meantime, we can help by following CDC guidelines by social distancing, and by staying at home.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
