Let's be honest, Instagram is probably one of your favorite apps on your phone. Scrolling through those perfect pictures of aligned objects on desks, cute puppies, and of course, the random accounts we always seem to follow just because the girls look as if they have the perfect life.
I'm very similar to a lot of other girls my age. Instagram is a social media platform where I spend countless hours for both personal and work use. I know I'm not alone when I say that I compare myself--my body, my friends, my life to those other girls who always seems to pop up on my explore page.
To try and match the gorgeous & fabulous lifestyles of the beautiful strangers, I found that I may not be able to magically inherit 2.3 million dollars to take exotic vacations or shop until my closet is full of gorgeous clothes, but what I can do is dedicate time to make a happy and healthy body that I can be proud of. Easy enough, right? I did sports throughout high school, I know what I am capable of and what foods will help to reach that "perfect" body that will help make the comparisons easier to the strangers.
Dedicating the time is the hardest part. I think your 20's can be the hardest time to try and make a set routine, especially while in college. There are always so many random events that pop up and the best memories always come at 2 A.M. when you're snacking on McDonald's or Taco Bell.
That's why I'm here to tell you, you don't need a fitness routine. You don't need to kill yourself and give up carbs to lose that extra three pounds. If you put in just as much amount of time working on being a good person as you do working out, people won't care about what size you are. Instead, they'll be more focused on how much they trust you, how much fun they have with you, and how much you mean to them.
We all get so caught up in what life looks like in pictures, we forget that most of the time, there were hundreds of pictures to choose from, there are COUNTLESS editing apps, and there are THOUSANDS of unhappy souls because they may have "friends" online but they lack the relationships in real life.
My advice? Make working out fun. Don't count your calories to the point where your mouth is drooling every five seconds. Enjoy seconds, and thirds, and fourths if the food is delicious. Go for walks with your friends, lift with your brother/sister. Most importantly, do whatever you do for YOU. Don't do it for your Instagram followers, don't do it to stop the comparisons (trust me, based on experience, they never go away anyway). Do it to make yourself happy. Eat the foods you love whether that's fried chicken or kale salads. This life is yours, now go live it.
