12 Things That Happen When You Become Best Friends With Your College Roommate

When you met your roommate, it was a little awkward and your conversations were full of questions. Which side of the room do you want? Should we coordinate décor? Do you want to come hang out with me and some other people I literally just met?

After getting to know their pet peeves, favorite things and the differences or similarities between you two, you couldn't help but spend every moment with each other. It's hard not to when you wake up next to each other every morning at school.

1. You spend some nights up way later than you meant to just because you were talking.

Despite the lack of sleep, you always end up feeling better after a couple of hours of venting about boys, friends, school and work.

2. You watch TV shows and movies together.

Don't you dare watch "The Bachelor" without me.

3. You take care of each other.

Whether you're sick or you won't be home from work before the dining hall closes, they'll willingly pick up food for you or run to the drug store for cough drops, tissues, and Nyquil. Thanks to my second mom.

4. Sometimes you take it too far with being brutally honest.

I got so much done today, what did youdo? Dude, you have to clean up this week. You're wearing that? How late were you up last night? Are you drunk? You need to get your life together, man.

5. You don't know what to do when they aren't there.

What time should I go to bed? Do I just go to the dining hall alone? Blasting music and dancing by myself just doesn't feel the same.

6. You've made plans to get together during breaks from school.

Whether you're just a couple of towns apart or all the way across the country, you will see each other again.

7. You actually do stuff together.

Whether it be going to a show, or spontaneously going to get piercings together, you spend quality time with each other off campus and outside of your dorm room abode.

But staying in is your plan the majority of the time...

8. You know all of their friends from high school.

Yeah I knows who you are, what you look like, and what you did to her during your junior year of high school, and I hate you just as much as she does.

9. Their parents are your parents.

When they FaceTime, they're FaceTiming the both of you.

10. They know what they do that pisses you off, but they also know your favorite things in the world.

Maybe you can make up for not closing the closet door if you bring home a couple Hummingbird cupcakes.

11. No judgement exists between you two once you cross the threshold of your dorm room.

“Yeah I'm going to put a tampon in right now, because I forgot to bring one to the bathroom with me." “Can I use your pimple popper?"

12. Other people are constantly telling you that you're so lucky to get along with your roommate so well.

And there's no denying it, it's pretty awesome to be able to introduce someone as not only your roommate, but also as one of your best friends.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
