It's that time of year again and you know what that means... classes. Whether you go to a community college or a state university, we all have the same struggles.
1. Back to School.
You probably spent all Summer working, hanging out with friends, going to a concert, going on a road trip, or maybe just watching Netflix. Either way, it's over. You can no longer do that with every minute of your day. Going to bed on the last day of Summer and thinking about the work that is a head of you is almost heartbreaking.
2. Getting Up Early Every Day.
Even if you have been waking up early every day this Summer to go to work, it seems to be a lot harder to do when you know it's class you're getting up for. You can try going to bed at a decent time, which is around 10 pm, but even when you get 8 hours of sleep, you just don't want to do it.
3. You got the not so good professor.
You probably didn't have enough time to look up every professor on ratemyprofessor.com to make sure they were legit. You went with the benefit of the doubt and just selected the time of the class that sounded good to you and hoped for the best, good job. Now you have to sit through a semester with this boring, rude, and strict professor that doesn't understand that you have other classes and a job on the side. I wish you luck with this one.
4. The perfect outfit.
Even college is somewhat like high school to a point, especially with this one. We don't know who's going to be in our classes or who we will see during our walk to the library. The first week can be crucial to your social life. What if you see that guy you met at a party last semester or the girl you started working with this Summer? So I guess you have to get up a little early than normal, again.
4. Finding your classes.
Advice to all students, go the week or day before and find out where your classes are located. There's nothing more embarrassing than walking into the wrong room and sitting through an entire class because you're too nervous to walk out (I've done that two or five times). If you want to walk around in circles on the wrong floor, probably in the wrong building, be my guest. Wing the entire thing!
5. Syllabus Week.
For some, this may be the best week of their semester. You get handed a piece (or two) of paper with the basic rules. You have the professors name, their office hours, and something about plagiarism, whatever it is, it saved you from actual work. Congratulations, you are one of the few. Some may have the professor that has you read it before classes actually start so you can have a quiz on it your first day. Better yet, you get homework the first day and a paper due the next. When people tell you to skip, don't.
6. The walk to class.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to live as close to campus as possible. It doesn't seem that bad when you are walking with your friends for fun, but realizing you have to walk further in a short period of time is hell. You may think having class in one building at eight then going to class in another building at nine is simple. Chances are, it's not. Especially when there's hundred's of people and you have class on the top floor. Better prepare yourself for a workout every day you are running from class to class.
7. Going home after first day of classes.
You didn't think it was going to be as bad as it was, but you survived. You may not have enjoyed getting up earlier than expected, seeing who's in your class, or walking from building to building, but you did it. Good job! But hey, you have the ENTIRE semester left!
